The Greatest Hit Down Route 66 seems like it would be a show full of great family vibes, and it does start out that way. However, somewhere along the way it takes a sharp turn and becomes more a story about disconnection than about connection. It is not just minor family squabbles either. Although there is some of that, it is more about a deeper disconnection between family members.

The performances, however, are quite good all around. In the good times and the bad, these people really feel like a family. The songs are fun, and the voices are good especially that of Hannah-Kathryn "HK" Wall, vocalist with the band. All of the songs are from Carl Sandburg's American Songbag. Therefore, most audience members are likely to recognize at least some of them which adds to the enjoyment of them.

Nevertheless, on the whole, one can't help wishing there were more happy family vibes. It's an interesting trip this show takes us on, but not necessarily the one we expected or wanted.

And that's our view. Tune in Saturday for Still More Theater Saturday.
