Where-To-Go Wednesday - The Secret World of Elephants

We were given complimentary tickets to The Secret World of Elephants for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: The Secret World of Elephants

Where: American Museum of Natural History
            200 Central Park W.
            New York, NY

Who: All ages

The new exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, The Secret World of Elephants is incredibly fascinating, informative, and fun. You can learn everything you ever wanted to know about the species including how they evolved, how much and what they eat, how they communicate and so much more. You may be surprised by some of the things you learn. For example. their closest animal relatives are not the ones you would think like Rhinos and Hippos.

There is so much to see. There are models of elephants including ones that no longer exist like the tiny dwarf elephant and the wooly mammoth. There are depictions of elephants in art, literature, and more. You can even view models of elephant dung and learn about its importance. Plus. there are plenty of other exciting things to see in the exhibit as well.

There is so much to do as well. The exhibit is extremely interactive. You can learn how to communicate nonverbally like an elephant, listen to elephant sounds, and feel elephant teeth and skin. There are a whole lot of other exciting and engaging interactive activities to participate in too.

Most importantly, the exhibit highlights the importance of elephants. It points out the dangers to their very existence and reminds us of the very real threat of their extinction. It shows us small ways that even average people like us can do our part to help ensure the survival of this majestic species.

And that's our view. For more about The Secret of Elephants or to purchase tickets to visit the museum and see this impressive exhibit, visit www.amnh.org/exhibitions/secret-world-elephants  Note, timed tickets are necessary to visit the museum and a visit to this exhibit requires an additional fee beyond the regular museum entrance fee unless you are a member of the museum.

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
