Where-To-Go Wednesday - Museum of Broadway

We were given complimentary tickets to the Museum of Broadway for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Museum of Broadway

Where: 145 W. 45th St.
              New York, NY

Who: All ages

Me - The Museum of Broadway was insanely fun! The museum is every theater lover's dream. There were so many things to see from so many different shows from every era. In the first room you walk into, they had posters from all the shows that are currently running on Broadway. Both of my current favorites were next to each other so it made it easy to take a picture. It also made me happy to see both of my favorites next to each other.

I loved that there was a lot of stuff that was very interactive. I enjoy that.  It keeps my attention when I am visiting a museum more than just looking at things. Here, you could complete a puzzle about Stephen Sondheim shows, dance along to West Side Story, listen to interviews with the original cast of Rent, and more. There were also a lot of great spaces for Photo Ops. They included a replica Oklahoma cornfield, a swing in the section on the musical, Hair, the door from the show The Producers, and more.

The museum covered some individual shows like West Side Story and Cabaret. There were also sections that covered a bunch of different shows. Plus, there were sections on particular people in the theater like Rodgers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

A lot of the shows I really love were covered including some I wouldn't expect because they were not that popular like Sing Street. Sing Street was supposed to come to Broadway but didn't because of the pandemic. It was really exciting to see it covered in the museum because I love that show. There were other shows I loved that were not that popular that were also covered like Bright Star and Tuck Everlasting.

I also learned about shows I had never heard of in the museum. It was interesting to find out about shows I had never heard of as well as new things about shows I already knew and loved. I really enjoy learning about theater. In fact, all learning would be better if it involved theater. The Broadway Museum is, by far, the best museum I have ever been to, and I would highly recommend it.

Mom - If you want to totally immerse yourself in everything to do with Broadway, you will definitely want to visit the Museum of Broadway. This museum may not cover every show that has ever graced the Great White Way, but it comes about as close as it possibly can. It doesn't just cover the shows that were the most popular but many others as well including some that most people probably never even heard of.

The museum is divided into several different sections. In the first section, there are posters of every current show. They are arranged by the theater the show is playing in. Each poster includes a QR code which you can use if you want to purchase tickets for that show.

Next, you go into a room where you see a short film on the history of the theater. That room also contains information about who owns all the current theaters. However, you don't really spend enough time there to be able to read all the information.

The next section, and by far the biggest section, of the museum covers Broadway from its beginning through the time when the Museum was completed in the 2020s. There are different rooms pertaining to different decades. There are also whole sections on particular shows like A Chorus Line, The Wiz and Rent. There is an extremely detailed timeline for each decade. There are also plenty of pictures and other documents as well as tons of memorabilia and costumes. Some of the items you can see include costumes from Hair, Jane Krakowski's skates from Starlight Express, a couple of puppets from Avenue Q, and Tony Awards.

Following that, there is a section on other jobs in the theater. Here you can learn what stage managers, costume designers, casting directors, and more actually do. You can even pretend to be the stage manager calling a show. There are also a lot more pictures documents and other items.

The last section of the museum is for special exhibits. The current special exhibit is on the musical, Chicago, the current longest-running show on Broadway. Here there are even more pictures and memorabilia as well as a place where you can take a photo with the Cell Block Tango girls.

Whether you are already a Broadway fan or you just want to learn more about it, the Museum of Broadway is a great place to go.  If you are a fan already be prepared to spend a lot of time here. You're definitely going to love it!
