2) Parfumerie

Just days before Christmas, George Horvath’s boss at the Parfumerie fires him after mistakenly suspecting him to be his unfaithful wife’s lover. Then George discovers that the stranger he has fallen in love with through a secret correspondence is none other than Amalia Balash, a co-worker with whom he constantly feuds. For the employees of the Parfumerie, only the truth can lead to a happy resolution in this old-fashioned, romantic Christmas tale.

This is a new adaptation of the play that inspired several movies including “You’ve Got Mail,” “The Shop Around The Corner,” “She Loves Me,” and “In The Good Old Summertime.”

Kelsey Theatre at MCCC (1200 Old Trenton Rd., West Windsor, NJ)

3) The Jerusalem Syndrome

The Jerusalem Syndrome is an original musical comedy that explores a real-life psychological malady that causes tourists in Israel—over 200 every year!—to suffer mental breakdowns and suddenly come to believe that they are characters from the Bible. Meet an inept tour guide who turns into Moses, a professor in a troubled marriage who thinks she’s Abraham’s wife Sarah, and a resort tycoon with daddy issues who might be Jesus…not to mention multiple Virgin Marys and the Lord Herself. The Jerusalem Syndrome is an outrageous romp, but it is also a story of hope in which the characters come to see that today, just like in the times of their biblical alter egos, miracles are happening all around us. The Jerusalem Syndrome is the winner of the Kleban Prize and The Theatre for the American Musical Award.

The Theatre at St. Jean’s (entrance on 150 East 76th St.)
11/21 - 12/31
Opening Night 11/30

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit yorktheatre.org

4) Lone Star

Lone Star takes place in the cluttered back yard of a small-town Texas bar. Roy (Matt de Rogatis), a brawny macho type, is back in town, battling symptoms of PTSD, after a hitch in Vietnam. Joined by his younger brother Ray (Barton Cowperthwaite), this hilarious and poignant study of a pair of Texas "good ole boys" explores the depths of brotherhood and the scars to be dealt with from battles fought at home and abroad.

Theatre Row (410 West 42nd St.)
11/25 - 12/23
Opening Night 12/3

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.ruthstage.org/lonestar

5) United Nations

UNITED NATIONS: THE OTHER WEST is set within the UN Headquarters in New York. Charles Kabre is new in town as the ambassador for the military junta in Burkina Faso in West Africa. When climate activists force a lockdown, he’s trapped with the Russian and German representatives, Agata and Rudolph, who are both eager to exert their influence on him and have their own strange relationship with each other. All three are implored to stay put by a UN staffer out of her depth, and so the global battle for power in Africa rages just outside the UN cafeteria.

154 on Christopher (154 Christopher St.)
11/21 - 12-10
Opening Night 11/26

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.thirdwing.info

B) Extended Runs

Tom Stoppard’s absorbing play takes us back and forth between the centuries and explores the nature of truth and time, the difference between the Classical and the Romantic temperament, and the disruptive influence of sex on our orbits in life - 'the attraction which Newton left out’.

West End Theater (263 W 86th St.)
Now closing 12/23

9) Brooklyn Children’s Museum Presents

Opposites Abstract: A Mo Willems Exhibit

On view through May 2024

Brooklyn Children's Museum recently unveiled a new exhibitionOpposites Abstract: A Mo Willems Exhibit, which invites visitors to view and play by exploring the complicated yet simple concept of opposites through hands-on experiences, art making activities, and artist-led performances. Created by Children's Museum of Pittsburgh in partnership with Mo Willems Studio, the exhibit’s opening at Brooklyn Children’s Museum marks the first time it will be on view to the public outside of its home in Pittsburgh.

Geared to both children and people of all ages, Opposites Abstract: A Mo Willems Exhibit will inspire every visitor to create and respond to art in their own unique ways. Based on the exploration of opposites, the exhibition takes its inspiration from the eye-popping, emotive, and highly accessible words and images in Mo Willems bestselling children’s book of the same name, and prompts visitors to investigate opposites through hands-on experiences, art-making, and performances.

Visitors explore opposites through hands-on activities, including:

·       Drawing with a friend side-by-side where curves you draw on one screen are translated into straight lines on their screen - and vice versa!

·       Moving translucent shapes on an overhead projector to create an abstract artwork, playing with light, color and shadow.

·       Playing a melody, then turning the crank to change the speed of the music and notice how the song changes.

·       Creating a small piece of art prompted by an Element of Art and an OPPOSITE, then hanging your work as part of a larger collaborative piece inspired by opposites.

The Museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission to the Museum is $15 per person. To learn more, visit www.brooklynkids.org/exhibits/opposites-abstract.
