Books: Every Wish Way & Understanding Holiday Traditions

Today we are recommending Every Wish Way by Shannon Bright. Trying to prove her man-hating mother wrong and find her ideal mate, Iza accidentally summons Beckett, a wish-granting genie. She wishes for her own version of the beloved literary character Mr. Darcy so everything should go great if she just follows the book. However, this modern Mr. Darcy is so like the book character in all the worst ways, and there is a lot more to Beckett the genie than meets the eye. Iza finds that everything she thought she wanted may be completely wrong.

This is quite an interesting book with a very unique plot. It is a fun mashup of Aladdin and Pride and Prejudice with a twist.  Iza's struggle to find the perfect man and get off the dating treadmill is so identifiable, and Beckett is the manliest most crushable genie ever with the kindest heart. You'll never look at genies the same again once you read this book.

Today we are recommending Understanding Holiday Traditions by Linda Weaver Clarke. If you want to know the true story of why we celebrate Thanksgiving, Halloween, or numerous other holidays, you are definitely going to want to read this fascinating book. It is not as predictable as you might think from the subject matter. The origins of some holidays may actually surprise you. All in all, this is a quick, fun, and informative read.

Movies: Million to One

Million to One is a cute double romance. The main characters are Dre and Tatiana, a food blogger and chef who meet at his brother's wedding. However, their story is quite underdeveloped and you'll find yourself wanting to know more. The far more interesting and more developed story is that of Dre's brother, Isaac, and his fiancee, Monica. As they prepare for their wedding, Isaac is haunted by his past and unsure he is really ready to move forward. Although the movie is enjoyable, it would have been even more enjoyable if it were a bit longer and both stories really had time to fully develop.

Million to One is available digitally now for purchase or rental.

And that's our view.

Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
