Still More Theater Saturday - William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet

We were given complimentary tickets to Romeo + Juliet for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own. 

What:  William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet 

Where: Two River Theater 

             21 Bridge Ave. Red Bank, NJ 

Who: Recommended for Ages 15 and Up 

When: Through May 30, 2023 

The current production of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet at Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ is billed as a modern translation. However, it feels a bit schizophrenic because sometimes it seems very modern and sometimes it seems like the usual classic version of the show. It is the same with the staging and costumes. Sometimes they seem very modern and other times not. 

This version of the show has much more humor than usual. Much of the humor is based on the use of various props. In fact, there are quite a lot of props, and they are frequently very distracting. The younger members of the audience seem to enjoy the props usage much more than the older audience members, In fact, on the whole, the younger members of the audience seemed to enjoy the show a lot more than the older audience members. Accordingly, if the aim of this show was to appeal to young, people, they accomplished their goal.
