59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director)announced  Whisper House and The Collision / The MartyrdomWhisper House, presented by The Civilians, will reopen Theater A and begin previews on January 11, 2022, with opening night set for January 20 for a limited run through February 6, 2022. Presented by Two Headed RepThe Collision / The Martyrdom, two plays with the same casteach presented as one act within the production, will reopen Theater C with previews beginning January 16, 2022, and opening night set for January 22 for a run through February 5, 2022.

A dark and thrilling musical ghost story, Duncan Sheik and Kyle Jarrow’s Whisper House combines a lush original score with a haunting story about fear of the other and the ways we can transcend it.

In an eerie lighthouse on the remote coast of Maine, two lonely people face the beginning of World War II. There’s Yasuhiroa Japanese immigrant threatened by the rising wartime xenophobia—and Lily, his employer, who’s spent her whole life here. Their world is turned upside down when Lily’s young nephew, Christopher, is sent to live with them. Soon, the boy begins to hear strange music seeping through the walls. Is his imagination getting the better of him? Or are there ghosts here and maybe dangerous ones at that? What happens next will change the lives of these three characters forever...

The performance schedule for Whisper House is as follows: Tuesday – Friday at 7:00pm, Saturday at 2:00pm and 7:00pm, and Sunday at 2:00pm.

Tickets to Whisper House begin at $25 and are on sale now at 59e59.org/shows/show-detail/whisper-house-2022.

The Collision / The Martyrdom are two plays with the same cast and each will be presented as one act within the production.

The Collision / The Martyrdom are pieces performed in repertory while playing with key themes of old and new, rewritten narratives, the power of faith (both religious and secular), historical transformation of values and the corresponding alienation that process causes, individuals existing inside institutions, and the pitfalls and dangers of dogma. Hrotsvitha, the author of the original text, is widely regarded as the first known female playwright—her work rarely presented.

In The Collision, Sisters Anise, Gudrun, and Gunch spend their days praying, washing clothes, and copying the Bible. When a mysterious object falls from the sky—bringing death, destruction, and... unsettling changes in one of the sisters—they are forced to question: Was this God’s work? Or the Devil’s? And what happens when you can't tell the difference between a pervert and a prophet?

The Martyrdom asks: How do you solve a problem like Hrotsvitha? More specifically, how do we solve her 10th-century comedy about three Christian virgins who triumph over the Devil by accepting their violent, corporeal deaths as a shortcut to eternal happiness with their Celestial Bridegroom? This raucous adaptation is a road trip through the last millennium with the people (and puppets) who have asked themselves this same question in hopes that someone else might have the answer.

Together, these plays explore how we make meaning from the stories we inherit and how to make new meanings when old stories fail us.

The performance schedule for The Collision / The Martyrdom is as follows at 59E59’s Theater C: Tuesday – Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:30pm. Exceptions: there will be no performance on January 25 or February 1.

The Collision / The Martyrdom is recommended for audience members 12 years and older due to language and content.

Tickets to The Collision / The Martyrdom are $25 and are on sale now at 59e59.org/shows/show-detail/the-collision-the-martyrdom.

3) TONY AWARD-WINNING BEST MUSICAL

DEAR EVAN HANSEN

CELEBRATES ITS LONG-AWAITED RETURN TO BROADWAY

AFTER 21 MONTHS OF DARKNESS

The Tony, Grammy and Oliver Award-winning global sensation Dear Evan Hansen celebrated its long-awaited return to Broadway’s Music Box Theatre (239 W 45th Street) on Saturday December 11, marking the final Broadway show to make its return this year. The show, which last played on Broadway 639 days before, welcomed surprise guests including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the frontline workers from the Northwell Health Nurse Choir in a surprise pop-up performance.

At the end of the performance, following a prolonged standing ovation, Dear Evan Hansen stars Jordan Fisher and Jessica Phillips thanked audiences for supporting live theater and being part of the historic evening. Audience (and cast) members were then treated to a surprise performance of show’s Act 1 anthem “You Will Be Found,” by the Northwell Health Nurse Choir, who gained renown earlier this year when they sang the song on NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent.”

To celebrate the show’s highly-anticipated return to New York City and to commemorate Dear Evan Hansen’s five-year anniversary, the Empire State Building was lit in the show’s signature blue.

Tickets are currently on-sale for the Broadway, National Tour, and West End productions of Dear Evan Hansen at www.dearevanhansen.com. For COVID protocols and ticketing policies for all three companies, please refer to the FAQs page at www.dearevanhansen.com.

4) NEW YORK CITY’S SPECTACULAR FAMILY EXPERIENCE
GAZILLION BUBBLE SHOW
IS PARTNERING WITH
FIRST RESPONDERS CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION
TO BRING FIRST RESPONDERS WHO SERVED ON THE FRONTLINES OF THE PANDEMIC CLOSER TOGETHER WITH THEIR FAMILIES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON AND BEYOND

THE NEW INITIATIVE IS AIMED AT ENHANCING THE MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL BEING OF FIRST RESPONDERS IN NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY BY GIFTING THEM AND THEIR CHILDREN WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF LIVE THEATER

The creators of the smash-hit family experience, GAZILLION BUBBLE SHOW today announced that they will be partnering with First Responders Children's Foundation (the national non-profit that provides support services and financial assistance to children of first responders who've been injured or died in the line of duty) to launch a new "First Responder Families" program that will gift everyday heroes who served on the frontlines of the pandemic (and their families) with tickets to the hit family experience this holiday season and beyond. The long running family show recently reopened in the heart of Broadway at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street) and is a one of a kind production that wows and inspires audiences with mind blowing bubble magic. Gazillion Bubble Show and First Responders Children's Foundation are coming together for this first of its kind initiative in the hopes that it will lift the spirits of first responder families  who sacrificed so much in the last year and who have also made the ultimate sacrifice - as the number of line of duty deaths (LODDs) have increased this year - leaving more children without a first responder parent. In addition to its mental health programs, The First Responders Children's Foundation also directly impacts first responders and their families with financial hardship grants, bereavement assistance, college scholarships and and supports educational activities and programs created by first responder organizations to benefit children or the communities in which they live.

First Responders who would like to arrange for tickets to the show can email Dan@1stRCF.org - Tickets will be donated on a first come, first serve basis and will be subject to availability - but the program is open ended.

Through this foray into the calamities of our past intelligentsia, Taylor MacMatt Ray and their collaborators invite the audience to their party and create a performance, which advocates for a more inclusive and joyous world.

The story of the Seaport is the story of New York. Climb aboard 1885 cargo ship Wavertree and experience the life of a sailor through hands-on activities. Learn about the ships, the people who sailed them, the cargoes they carried, and the businesses that served them. Take a walking tour through the past using documents, artifacts, and images to explore how the neighborhood has evolved from the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam to the city that we know today. The Seaport Museum has History programs for all grade levels and curricula, including:

Explorers, Crew & Cargo: Tall Ship Workshop
90 minutes | grades K-12 | up to 34 students
Board the tall ship Wavertree at the pier and experience the world of trans-Atlantic sailors through hands-on activities, such as hauling ropes to raise sail without leaving the dock, walking the capstan ‘round, learning about how sailors and officers spent their days, and discovering the importance of ships, cargo, and commerce from the time of European explorers until today.

Adventures Under Tug-Power
2 hours | grades 5-12 | up to 14 passengers
Take a trip around New York Harbor aboard W.O. Decker, the last remaining wooden tugboat in NYC. Engage in exciting activities, such as studying maps and charts to learn how geography shaped New York’s development,     seeing the working waterfront up-close, and charting how ships and waterfront activity are still central to New York’s economy.

New Amsterdam Walking Tour
90 minutes | grades 4-12 | up to 34 students
Take a walk back in time to the colonial outpost that became New York City. Walking the streets of lower Manhattan, students discover traces of Dutch colonial life in our modern city through images, documents, artifacts, archeological finds, and the street plan itself.

African-Americans in Early New York City Walking Tour
90 minutes | grades 4-12 | up to 34 students
People think of slavery as existing in the South, but in Colonial New York, almost half of the white families owned enslaved people of African descent. Using maps, documents, and images, walk the sites that tell how lower Manhattan and the Seaport were central to African enslavement and the road to freedom, and how Africans helped shape our city.

The Revolutionary War in New York City Walking Tour
90 minutes | grades 4-12 | up to 34 students
The streets and sites of Lower Manhattan tell the story of New York during the Revolution -- the ships and seaport that were the center of trade and taxation disputes, buildings and street corners where futures were debated and history made, the green where the statue of King George was raised and then toppled. Images, documents, artifacts, streets, and buildings all help tell the story.

To protect the health of our guests and staff, the Museum has increased cleaning protocols, and masks will be required throughout all programs.

They are: The New Wave that will feature the breakthrough new composers of the last twenty-five years; From The Ziegfeld Follies to Moulin Rouge, which will explore the remarkable history of jukebox musicals and the great age of musical revues; Almost on Broadway that, for the first time in Broadway by the Year history, tackles the great musical theater songbook that never reached the Great White Way; and, finally, the biggest, most ambitious concert in Broadway by the Year's history, A One Night Only History of Broadway Song and Dance.

February 14, 2022 at 8PM
Broadway by the Year: THE NEW WAVE
Songs from Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, The Book of Mormon, Rent, The Drowsy Chaperone and more

When Broadway historians look back at the early 21st Century, they may well call this era a new Golden Age, but right now it’s much like the 1920s when bright new composers like Irving Berlin, The Gershwins, Rodgers & Hart, and Cole Porter took a foothold on Broadway.

In the first concert of their 21st season, Broadway by the Year will celebrate the likes of Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton), Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen), Bobby Lopez (The Book of Mormon), and Lopez with Jeff Marx (Avenue Q), and so much more. An All-Star cast, drawn from performers who starred in these shows on Broadway, will be an extra, exciting attraction

March 21, 2022 at 8PM
Broadway by the Year: FROM THE ZIEGFELD FOLLIES TO MOULIN ROUGE
Songs from Jukebox and Revue Musicals

An extraordinary number of hit Broadway shows fit the description of “Jukebox or Revues Musical.” In our unique concert event at Town Hall, we will unearth the history of this much-maligned genre to reveal its importance in the resurrection of composers, songs, and styles. These Musicals have served everything from rock ’n’ roll (The Jersey Boys, Beautiful, All Shook Up) to classical music (Kismet), and from country (Ring of Fire) to Rhythm & Blues (Black & Blue, After Midnight). It has highlighted oftentimes forgotten composers, bringing their names back into the limelight, such as Eubie Blake with Eubie! and Fats Waller with Ain’t Misbehavin’. Our concert will highlight the history of these shows and give you the chart-topping songs from these shows, as well! Look forward to another All-Star cast delivering these songs with all the flair they deserve!

Broadway by the Year: ALMOST ON BROADWAY
Songs from shows that played off-Broadway and around the country

The world of theater music is full of songs that leapt to fame from shows that never actually made it to Broadway. For the first time in its 21-year history, Broadway by the Year will venture outside the confines of Broadway to honor the brilliant songs born Off-Broadway and in shows that played everywhere but Broadway. Just a small sampling of Off-Broadway shows that launched famous songs includes Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, Bat Boy, Beehive and, of course, The Fantasticks. Then there are the shows that never made it to Broadway, like The Baker's Wife, Zorro, and The Witches of Eastwick.

June 27, 2022 at 8PM
Broadway by the Year: A ONE NIGHT ONLY HISTORY OF BROADWAY SONG AND DANCE

It’s an awesomely big subject, but Broadway by the Year will bring it to you in an explosion of tap, ballroom, jazz, ballet, and more! From George M. Cohan, Fred &Adele Astaire, and the dancing feet of 42nd Street, right up to the brilliance of Andy Blankenbeuler’s choreography for In the Heights and Hamilton — and the world of Broadway dance that swirls in-between.

A cast of brilliant Broadway singer-dancers will be on display in this, Broadway by the Year’s most ambitious concert event in its 21 year history! In fact, this entire 21st season will set a new standard for Town Hall’s signature series. We hope you’ll be there to witness it all!
