Due to popular demand, the producers of A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet announced today that they are extending the run of the world premiere musical by a week – or 7/8ths of a Hannukah – and it will now play its final performance on Sunday, November 21st at 7:00 pm at the DR2 Theatre (103 East 15th Street).



Two nobodies dream of writing one hit song for everybody, but their day job composing jingles for commercials isn't the big break they hoped. That is, until they're plucked from obscurity by a world-famous pop star named Regina Comet (if destiny had a child, it would be her) and she wants them to create an anthem for her supernova pipes... and her new perfume. They're so close to the big-time they can smell it, but following your passion doesn't always lead where you expect. Making a hit song can be a shit-show.

The new musical comedy, A Turtle on a Fence Post, will begin previews on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, ahead of an official Opening Night on Sunday, November 14. The production will be the first to open at the newly renamed Theater 555 at 555 W. 42nd Street.

“A turtle on a fence post,” is one of Bill Clinton’s favorite colloquialisms: “If you see a turtle on a fence post,” the former president likes to say, “you know it didn't get there by itself.” Set in the contrasting locales of a comedy club and a correctional institution, Turtle… tells the fish-out-of-water story of a prominent New Yorker thrown into an unknown world by New York’s most powerful man, and how the experience changes him and those around him. The show deals with themes of freedom, forgiveness, truth and shifting perspectives, and features a bullying, toxic, retaliating, brutal New York Governor as its principal antagonist.

A Turtle on a Fence Post will play a limited ten-week engagement through Sunday, January 2, 2022. All attendees will be required to show ID and proof of COVID vaccination.

Spend a haunting Halloween with Japan’s most terrifying female ghost! The true tale of Oiwa’s undying vengeance is the original J-Horror story, retold here with a contemporary twist. A Japanese-American actress returns from the dead to wreak vengeance on the ambitious husband who betrayed her in this original play fusing Macbeth and the kabuki Yotsuya Ghost Tales.

Keiko (Kay) Tamiya, descendant of the original Oiwa, gives birth to a baby girl and wins a Primetime Emmy on the same day. Her husband and co-star, also nominated, loses out to his archrival.  Kay and Bryan are riding high as America's favorite couple with an unbreakable contract binding them together --- love, devotion, partners at home and at work. When both are offered the leads in Macbeth on Broadway, Bryan's thrill at playing the role of a lifetime is dashed by Keiko's disgust at the director's concept for Lady Macbeth: a stereotypical, derogatory depiction of Asian women. Keiko rejects the job and wants Bryan to stand in solidarity and give up his plum part as well.  But Bryan's ambition results in betrayal and ghostly vengeance.

In order to avoid the wrath of the vengeful ghost of Oiwa, the author and playwright of this play respectfully traveled to her grave in Tokyo, Japan to offer flowers, incense and a note (in English and Japanese). In the note, they humbly requested her permission and blessing to present the play, their way.  This ancient Japanese ritual must be performed so that everyone in the production and the audience will be safe. Those who neglect it risk suffering Oiwa’s revenge.  A perennial favorite in Japan, YOTSUYA GHOST TALES (Yotsuya Kaidan) recounts the story of Oiwa. It has been adapted into at least 30 films and continues to influence anime and Japanese horror movies, including The Ring and The Grudge.

The Orchestra Now (TŌN)—the visionary orchestra and master’s degree program founded by Bard College president, conductor, educator, and music historian Leon Botstein—begins its 2021–22 season in New York City on Oct. 31 at Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall. The concert features acclaimed guest conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto, Musical America’s 2019 Conductor of the Year and music director of both the Orchestra of the Americas and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México, the country’s most important orchestra. The diverse program features French, Mexican, and Spanish composers, including Messiaen’s Le tombeau resplendissant, which he described as a type of epitaph in four main sections and was written when he was only 24. The next work is Debussy’s milestone, impressionistic interpretation of La Mer (The Sea) with its three movements that he preferred to call “symphonic sketches.” Manuel de Falla’s music to the ballet El Sombrero de Tres Picos was commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev and premiered in 1919. The soloist in this work, Armenian-American mezzo-soprano Solange Merdinian, is a 2009 graduate of Bard Conservatory's Graduate Vocal Arts Program, and co-founder and co-artistic director of the non-profit organization New Docta and the New Docta International Festival in Argentina. She won the 2019 Pro Musicis Competition, completed a four-year world tour of Einstein on the Beach with the Philip Glass Ensemble, and has performed at Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall. Closing the program is Mexican composer/conductor José Pablo Moncayo’s Huapango. Moncayo was commissioned by Carlos Chávez to write a piece based on the folkloric music of the Veracruz area. Closely associated with Mexican nationalism, the resulting piece remains one of his most popular works. Following an experienced Black stage actress through rehearsals of a major Broadway production, Alice Childress’s wry and moving look at racism, identity, and ego in the world of New York theatre opened to acclaim Off-Broadway in 1955. At the forefront of both the Civil Rights and feminist movements, the prescient Trouble in Mind was announced to move to Broadway in 1957…in a production that never came to be.

The Broadway premiere of Trouble in Mind by Alice Childress, is partnering with radio station 107.5 WBLS-FM, the nation’s most recognizable Black radio station, offering 300 tickets at $19.57 to every preview performance in every section of the theater. 

This special offer reflects the year Childress’ play was originally intended to make its Broadway premiere in 1957. But that premiere never came to be because this play – written by a Black female playwright – about racism and progress in the American theater, was ignored and snubbed from having its planned Broadway debut. Now, with this history-referenced and affordable price point, Roundabout Theatre Company in collaboration with WBLS, strives to broaden and provide greater accessibility to anyone that wants to experience a live theatrical production on Broadway while also honoring Childress’ memory and the legacy of others who came before her and continue the fight.

big way this year. The Virtual Halloween Party will present all-ages interactive fun with Story

When The Lights Are Bright Again, the new book created by Andrew

Norlen spotlighting the 2020-2021 theater shutdown will be published 

on Monday, November 1 by Applause Theatre & Cinema Books. The book 

features letters of loss, hope, and resilience from the theater community, paired 

with stunning portraiture from acclaimed Broadway photographer Matthew 

Murphy.

A portion of the proceeds from each book are  going to The Actors Fund, the 

national human services organization for everyone in performing arts and 

entertainment.

Broadway notables such as Jerry Mitchell, Keala Settle, Ali Stroker, Sergio 

Trujillo, Eden Espinosa, Rob McClure, Robyn Hurder, Clint Ramos, Arian 

Moayed, Amber Iman, Andrew Barth Feldman, and more express their 

personal insights from the past year, alongside the desires and wishes of theater 

enthusiasts and other arts workers across the world, from Manila to Miami,
