Theater Thursday - Bad Dates

We were given complimentary access to Bad Dates for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Bad Dates

Where: Streaming at georgestreetplayhouse.org/shows/show/bad-dates

Who: Teens and Up

When: Through March 14, 2021

Bad Dates, streaming now, is the first show in the George Street Playhouse's 2021 virtual four-show season. This one-woman comedy is the story of Haley, a single mom with a teenage daughter working her way through a series of Mr. Wrongs looking for her Mr. Right. The show is likely to appeal more to women than men and is not appropriate for children due to subject matter and language. Of course, anybody who loves fashion and gossip whether they are a man or woman or neither is sure to enjoy this show. It's like having a series of gab sessions with your girlfriend, the one that never lets you get in a word edgewise but always wants to tell you about her life. Thankfully, in this case, the life in question is generally relatable but different enough in an interesting way to keep it fascinating to hear about for the approximately hour and a half running time of the show. Besides, it's such a guilty pleasure seeing the incredible clothes and fancy shoes Haley tries on getting ready for her dates, that it doesn't even occur to you until later to wonder how a single mom who works in a restaurant can afford such great couture. Of course, you'll find out about that soon enough. In the meantime, enjoy the fashion show and the chatter. If you're married most likely this show will make you glad you're done with all that dating stuff, and if you're single hopefully Haley's story and her positive attitude and willingness to get back out there no matter what life throws at her will encourage you.

And that's our view. For more information or to purchase a virtual ticket to Bad Dates or a subscription to George Street Playhouse's entire virtual season, visit georgestreetplayhouse.org/shows/season/2021-season.
