Let's Talk About The Brady Bunch

You may know that the classic television sitcom The Brady Bunch has had several different incarnations as a TV series. There was the original 1970s series as well as at least two other series: The Brady Bunch Hour, a variety show, and The Brady Bride, a series focusing on Marcia and Jan and their spouses. You may also know that there have been at least two motion pictures based on The Brady Bunch, The Brady Bunch Movie and A Very Brady Sequel. However, you may not know that there have also been at least three stage versions of The Brady Bunch. For more about that, read on.

The Real Live Brady Bunch - This show recreated episodes of the television series on the stage using all adult actors. The cast included Jane Lynch who went on to star in Glee among other things and Andy Richter best known as Conan O'Brien's sidekick.  The show was extremely fun and very nostalgic for anyone who grew up with  The Brady Bunch either when it originally aired or through the magic of endless reruns.

The Bardy Bunch - In this sitcom as Shakespeare musical, the feuding Montagues and Capulets were replaced by the feuding Bradys and Partridges. The show included songs from both series. It was extremely gory (lots of blood was shed) and definitely not for children. However, if you could get past the gore, the show was extremely fun and nostalgic as well.

A Very Brady Musical  - This show is currently in development and an online reading was recently held. This one is definitely not for children either due to mature and very unbrady like subject matter. It was written by the children of the show's original creator, Sherwood Schwartz so maybe it is their way of rebelling against their childhood. However, in its current state, the plot is not very interesting and neither are the songs. We are curious to see how the show further develops, but frankly not very hopeful.

And that's our view. What is your favorite new incarnation of a classic sitcom?

Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.
