Theater That Kindness: Nurses in their Own Words With V (formerly Eve Ensler) In Support of The Brooklyn Hospital Center’s COVID-19 Fund

With help from James LecenseMusic by MorleyAnimation by Alixa Garcia

Oct 15 at 7pm (on view for 96 hours) Free at www.bam.org That Kindness: Nurses in their Own Words is a new virtual play created by American nurses with writer, activist, and performance artist V (formerly known as Eve Ensler), honoring nurses’ selfless act of service and revealing raw, passionate testimonies from the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic. BAM will virtually present the world premiere at BAM.org on October 15th at 7pm (EST) simultaneously with theaters across the country and will remain publicly posted for 96 hours. In lieu of purchasing a ticket, viewers are encouraged to support those who risk their lives daily to care for their patients during a pandemic by donating to The Brooklyn Hospital Center Covid-19 Fund at any point during the engagement.

Produced in partnership with National Nurses United and California Nurses Association, That Kindness draws from frank, stirring interviews and personal stories that coalesce into a compelling narrative of kindness, confession, and activism tailored to our times. A preeminent cast brings these stories to life as nurses--who V calls “radical angels of the heart”. The cast includes Ed Blunt, Connie Britton, Rosario Dawson, Stephanie Hsu, LaChanze, Liz Mikel, Rosie O'Donnell, Billy Porter, Dale Soules, Marisa Tomei, and Monique Wilson. The production features original music by Morley, whose poignant lyrics capture the essence of the work..."A nation is defined by how its nurses are supplied...how they're treated and if they survive."

In this most important of election years and further channeling That Kindness into a call to action, this production is presented in conjunction with BAM's Get Out the Vote effort.

Film

Martin Eden (2019) Opens October 16 Director Pietro Marcello Tickets: $12 Adapted from a 1909 novel by Jack London yet set in a provocatively unspecified moment in Italy’s history, Martin Eden is a passionate and enthralling narrative fresco in the tradition of the great Italian classics. Martin (played by the marvelously committed Luca Marinelli) is a self-taught proletarian with artistic aspirations who hopes that his dreams of becoming a writer will help him rise above his station and marry a wealthy young university student (Jessica Cressy). The dissatisfactions of working-class toil and bourgeois success lead to political awakening and destructive anxiety in this enveloping, superbly mounted bildungsroman. Courtesy of Kino Lorber. 6) TIKTOK STAR NATALIE WEISS AND EMMY WINNER & GRAMMY NOMINEE FELICIA BOSWELL REUNITE FOR MOVING RENDITION OF EMOJILAND’S HIT BALLAD “STAND FOR”

ONE HUNDRED SINGERS AND MUSICIANS JOIN THE VIDEO WHICH ASKS AUDIENCES

 “WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?”

Rising TikTok personality Natalie Weiss (Everyday Rapture, YouTube’s “Breaking Down the Riffs”), and Emmy Winner & Grammy Nominee Felicia Boswell (NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar LIVE, Shuffle Along, Motown), two stars from the Original Off-Broadway Cast of EMOJILAND (the critically acclaimed new musical which was cut short in March due to the Broadway shutdown), have reunited virtually to perform the song “Stand For,” supported by one hundred singers and musicians from coast to coast.

In the musical, which received a Critics’ Pick from the New York Times, the song “Stand For” is sung by the emoji Construction Worker (Weiss) in protest of governmental corruption, while Police Officer (Boswell) grapples with the ethical dilemma of enforcing that government’s decrees.

One of the show’s writers, Keith Harrison, who also produced the quarantine music video, says the number was written to inspire the audience to ask themselves what they “stand for.”

Joining Weiss and Boswell in the video are singers from the Weston Drama Workshop, AMDA College of the Performing Arts and Honeoye Falls-Lima High School, accompanied by a five-piece band comprised of CJ Baker, Emily Rosenfield, Geno Henderson, Jazz Limbo and Harrison himself.

7) Twisted Look at LGBT+ History by Sam Morrison Premieres
FOUNDING DADDIES
Saturdays, October 17 & 24 Live at Now & Then (Bushwick, Brooklyn)

Following in the footsteps of Sandra Bernhard, John Leguizamo, Sarah Silverman and Margaret Cho, gay comic/monologuist Sam Morrison follows up his internationally acclaimed debut show Hello, Daddy with the premiere of his new live solo show FOUNDING DADDIES. Directed by Spencer Whale, performances of this twisted look at LGBT+ history will be presented live and in person Saturdays, October 17 & 24 at Now & Then in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

already know… but not like this.

backdoor patio at Now & Then (290 Meserole St. Brooklyn, NY 11206-1733 -- 2 blocks from the L train at Montrose). Running time is 1 hour. Tickets are $20 available at SpinCycleNYC.com. There is no minimum, but you must purchase food and drink to attend. 21+ only.

Faced with the COVID-19 cancellations of two Larry Kirwan concert/shows at Bergen Community College and Bucks County Community College, Peter LeDonne, Academy Award nominee, Broadway Marketing Guru and Bergen’s Community and Cultural Affairs Director, conceived an alternative event and a new paradigm for the colleges’ audiences and far beyond.

Entitled FROM WEXFORD TO BROADWAY, the Online Video Announcement will premiere worldwide on Vimeo, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14 at 7:00pm

Featuring Mr. Kirwan performing his most iconic works for the camera, FROM WEXFORD TO BROADWAY will also track his remarkable career from his childhood in Wexford, Ireland to his current Broadway productions.

Wexford

Established in 1210 AD by England’s King John, Wexford is a town on the southeast coast of Ireland, at the mouth of the River Slaney, over which the world-famous Selskar Abbey presides as does the Bullring Market Place’s Pikeman Statue celebrating the 1798 Rebellion against Britain’s rule. For centuries, Wexford was, and still is, a musical melting pot gathering songs and aural histories brought to its seaport from every corner of the globe.

Desert Rose
(Book, Music and Lyrics by Larry Kirwan)

10) LAURA BELL BUNDY AND BROADWAY PODCAST NETWORK ANNOUNCE NEW PODCAST “WOMEN OF TOMORROW”
Podcast Deeply Explores Women’s Issues Profiled On Bundy’s
Upcoming Album of the Same Name
First Guest Includes KY Democratic Senator Nominee, Amy McGrath

“Women of Tomorrow” Episode 1
is now LIVE on

Actress, singer, and Tony nominated Broadway star, Laura Bell Bundy and co-host, music producer, Shea Carter, in association with the Broadway Podcast Network, are pleased to announce the new podcast, “Women of Tomorrow” inspired by Bundy’s album of the same name, which was co-written by Bundy, Carter and Jeremy Adelman.

The podcast powerfully and deeply dives into the issues each song on her album presents, examines the history of those matters and provides solutions for moving forward.  The first episode, featuring Bundy’s interview with Democratic Senate Nominee Amy McGrath, will be available today October 5, 2020 exclusively from the Broadway Podcast Network and wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.  Find it at BPN.FM/WomenofTomorrow

Bundy says, “In the album Women of Tomorrow each song delves into a different issue women are facing today, but the podcast allows us to explore the history of that issue and speak with a special guest or expert about their experience and how we can move forward.  Our first episode centers around the song “Get It Girl You Go,” which is about women doing it all, breaking the glass ceiling, and getting a seat at the table.  The music video features all the female candidates running for democratic national office in 2020. So in our podcast, we examine the rights women won over the last 100 years that enabled them to join the workforce and we interview Amy McGrath, the first female fighter jet pilot and marine to fly an FA-18 in a combat mission who is now running against Mitch McConnell for Senate in KY.”

Each additional episode will feature a song from Women of Tomorrow that sets the stage for each topic such as: ‘doing it all,’ equal pay, unrealistic beauty standards, obsession with social media, domestic violence, pitting women against each other, domain over our own bodies, sexual assault, the new rules of masculinity, motherhood, pregnancy, the mental load and what it means to be ‘a good guy.’ Just two women and one guest working to lower the high cost of equality one song at a time. They may not change your mind, but they will make you think.

Out of the ashes of the 2016 presidential election, came the most powerful women’s movement since the 1970’s. Women’s voices raised in unity to express their fear over losing all they had fought for and their desire for equal rights.

Inspired by the music of Glenn Miller, Doris Day, Peggy Lee, and classic MGM movie musicals, Women of Tomorrow album, coming out in Spring 2021, is vintage in sound but not in subject matter.  Like the current pop elements sprinkled throughout, this album
encapsulates the experiences of today’s modern women.

To download Bundy’s current single “Get It Girl, You Go” please visit: https://LLB.lnk.to/GetItGirlYouGo

The Podcast is available on Apple/iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeart, TuneIn, Deezer, Player.FM, Pocket Cast, Podcast Addict and everywhere else you listen to podcasts.
