Everybody deserves the opportunity to bloom. For years that wasn't the case for Blacks on Broadway. Not only did they rarely appear on stage they were barely allowed to attend shows. Even when they did attend, they had to sit in a different section and go in and out through a different door. Black Broadway traces the history of African Americans in the theater from the early days through the current century. It covers numerous performers and shows. Many of them are quite well know; others not as much as they should be. It also covers a little bit about people outside of the Broadway world and events that were occurring away from the Great White Way.
