The Sixth Annual THE RIDE In Masquerade will play through Thursday this October in New York City.

Written and directed by creative magician Richard Humphrey, CEO/CCO, THE RIDE’s award-winning script will take a bewitching seasonal turn as performers hide behind their lace and bejeweled masks to celebrate all that we love about October in New York.

Enchanting stories, beguiling videos and aristocratic spirits channel the ethereal seduction of a Medieval Halloween.

The award-winning cast of THE RIDE will don especially designed lace and jeweled masques of medieval court life to enchant and captivate their audiences on the million-dollar motor coaches and trillion-dollar Manhattan streets.

What began as an elaborate and choreographed night of seduction in the gold-drenched royal courts of 15th Century Europe and steadily moved to the torch-lit public costumed balls of the 16th Century will now be introduced to the 21st Century’s center of the Universe - the streets of Mid-Town Manhattan.

THE RIDE In Masquerade will continue to spellbind for the entire Halloween Season through Thursday, October 31.

STROKE OF LUCK
OR HOW MY BRAIN BROKE AND I CRAWLED MY WAY BACK

Friday, October 11th at 9pm at Theatre Row/Studio Theatre

The stark drama of Farley's stroke, and subsequent recovery, is woven into the fabric of a funny, fresh and musical
cabaret. The unexpected journey she takes the audience on is a unique story, yet, full of universal truths. The realities
and consequences of a stroke are realistically brought to life as Farley cracks her life open and inspects it with
bravery, music, and humor.

Farley Cadena is a vivacious and beloved musical theatre actress, well known for her wickedly funny roles in  The Producers, 42nd Street,Thoroughly Modern Millie, Urinetown, and many more, leaving her mark on regional
Los Angeles stages. She shocked and stunned the theater community, in late 2017, when she experienced a sudden stroke. Ms. Cadena felt deeply lost, hopeless, frightened and helpless during her illness, bringing focus to simply
returning to her 'old self', but her brain was just broken. Nonetheless, she dug deep into her recovery and gave herself the big crazy task of telling the tale of what transformed her life... out loud... with music... to an audience! Now, theatergoers take a front row seat and get an inside view of her powerful, funny, and mixed up journey back to health, back to life and back to her voice.

New York Butoh Institute

in association with

Theater for the New City

present

New York Butoh Institute Festival 19

October 10-27,2019

at Theater for the New City

New York Butoh Institute presents the New York Butoh Institute Festival 19 from Thursday, October 10 through Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Theater for the New City. This year will mark the 60th anniversary of the Japanese performance art form butoh.

Curated by New York Butoh Institute's founder Vangeline, the Festival will consist of an exciting program of Butoh workshops and masterclasses, as well as seven nights of groundbreaking performances presented at Theater for the New City. The festival will conclude on Sunday, October 27 with a lecture and short film celebrating the founder of butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata, and the 60 years of this historical and revolutionary art form as it continues to evolve into the 21st century.

The bold butoh performances being presented during the festival will feature 14 female dancers from Japan, Colombia, Norway, Italy, Germany, France, and the U.S. One of the pieces, Hijikata, Mon Amour, will be performed by Vangeline as an homage to butoh founder Tatsumi Hijikata. A highlight of the piece will be the costume Vangeline will wear: an exact replica of the bold red costume Tatsumi Hijikata wore in his legendary butoh performance of Tatsumi Hijikata and The Japanese-Revolt of the Flesh in 1968.

Much like butoh itself, it was born at the confluence of East and West. This costume chronicles the evolution of postmodern art in Japan. The Festival will close with a short film of Tatsumi Hijikata in his 1968 solo, and a lecture with costume expert Todd Thomas who recreated the costume, and who will discuss his process, shedding light on how the original costume was designed and constructed. Prior to and during the presentation, the replica will be on display for audience members to see.

The New York Butoh Festival 19 will take place at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, NYC. Thursday through Saturday October 17-19 and October 24-26 at 8pm, Sunday October 20 at 3pm, Sunday October 27 special event lecture at 3pm. THE YORK THEATRE COMPANY’S
FALL 2019 “MUSICALS IN MUFTI” SERIES
CELEBRATING BROADWAY’S LEGENDARY COLE PORTER
CONTINUES WITH
“THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE ENTIRE WORLD
AS SEEN THROUGH THE EYES OF COLE PORTER”

MUSIC AND LYRICS BY COLE PORTER
ORIGINALLY CREATED BY BEN BAGLEY
MUSIC DIRECTION BY ERIC SVEJCAR
DIRECTED BY PAMELA HUNT
11 PERFORMANCES ONLY
OCTOBER 12 - 20 2019
AT THE YORK THEATRE AT SAINT PETER’S
Celebrating Broadway’s legendary Cole Porter, The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and rediscovery of musical gems from the past, continues their 50th Anniversary Season with its acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series celebrating the legendary Broadway composer. The series honors the illustrious songwriter behind such classics as Anything Goes, Kiss Me, Kate, Gay Divorce, Silk Stockings, Red, Hot and Blue, and Can-Can.
The second production in the Fall 2019 series is the 1965 musical revue The Decline and Fall of the Entire World as Seen Through the Eyes of Cole Porter, originally created and directed by Ben Bagley. This irreverent musical journey, conceived by Bagley in 1965, travels the globe through an array of gems from the vast Porter canon, both familiar and forgotten. The "world" under scrutiny is that between 1919 and 1945 when, indeed, some considerable declining and falling went on. Unfortunately (but fortunately for us), it's just as relevant now as it was over fifty years ago—"times have changed, and we’ve often rewound the clock," as Porter wrote, and now we’re rewinding it again. The New York Times, in its original review, said the revue “relishes Cole Porter, feasting on his lively and lilting tunes, tunes that are so marked by the Porter dash and swagger that they are immediately recognizable even though one may never have heard them before.” In times of great turmoil, Porter created a world of his own through his songs and made ours richer in the process. Performances begin Saturday afternoon, October 12, 2019 and continue for 11 performances only through October 20, 2019 at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Opening Night is set for Sunday evening, October 13, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.
The Decline and Fall of the Entire World as Seen Through the Eyes of Cole Porter will play the following 11-performance schedule—First Week: Saturday at 2:30 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:30 & 7:00 p.m.; Second Week: Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

SINCERITY FOREVER

Sincerity Forever is a comedy about a group of young residents from the fictional southern town of Hillsbottom, a place with a prominent community of Ku Klux Klan members, many of them in their teens. They hang out in their cars on serene nights with friends and crushes, and question, as teens do, absolutely everything.

He is coming to take away the person who is in possession of the penny. How do we make choices in the face of the end of the world as we know it?

THE INVENTION OF TRAGEDY
Now through October 20

A chorus of students, all alike and all unalike, are trying like the devil to tell a simple story—perhaps the story about the tragedy of the Sandwich Man—with sandwich boards upon which nothing is written, and hence, say nothing.  The Invention of Tragedy is Wellman’s examination of the post-9/11 world and America’s general and genial acceptance of the Iraq war.

MAC WELLMAN: PERFECT CATASTROPHES runs through November 1. Tickets start at $37 with a limited number of $17 tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Flea Theater is located at 20 Thomas Street between Church and Broadway, three blocks north of Chambers, close to the A/C/E, N/Q/R/W, 4/5/6, J/M/Z and 1/2/3 subway lines.
