2) From Staten Island (Ferry) Shuffle to New Shopping at NYC's First Ever Outlet Destination,
Empire Outlets
The days of the infamous Staten Island “shuffle” (hopping on the free Staten Island Ferry from lower Manhattan to SI to only turn around and go right back to Manhattan) for the city’s once forgotten borough are now over. Now millions of tourists who utilize one of the biggest visitor experiences in NYC- the SI Ferry- can take advantage of the iconic orange boats to shop, stay-a-while and see everything Staten Island has to offer with NYC’s first ever outlet mall, which is now officially open.
At 340,000 square feet, Empire Outlets is New York City’s first and only outlet destination with a combination of retail outlets, green public open spaces and dynamic art installations, located literally steps from the St. George Ferry Terminal and just a 25 minute boat ride from lower Manhattan. The 23+ million annual riders of the Staten Island Ferry can now enjoy designer stores such as Brook Brothers Factory, Nike Factory, Banana Republic, U.S. Polo Association, Samsonite (for those who need additional luggage to bring their discounted goodies home!) and many others. Later this summer, a 40,000-square-foot food and beverage deck with unmatched sweeping views of Manhattan, will open with dozens of food concepts including MRKTPL, Staten Island’s first-ever artisanal food hall.
Empire Outlets is also the gateway to other nearby attractions waiting to be discovered, including Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, the St. George Theatre which celebrates its 90th anniversary later this year, Richmond County Bank Ballpark and others. Whether you’re a New Yorker looking for a super sale or a visitor craving a new NYC adventure, Staten Island is the city’s next IT destination with plenty of reasons to shift from the shuffle to the sales, shops and sights of the borough of parks… Staten Island.

6B) HADESTOWN
ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST
RECORDING
TO BE RELEASED DIGITALLY
FRIDAY, JUNE 7
Producers Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy announced today that Hadestown, the new musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, developed with innovative director and Tony Award® nominee Rachel Chavkin, will digitally release the show’s Original Broadway Cast Recording on Friday, June 7. Additionally, the recording will be available as a double-CD with a release date to be announced.
Hadestown marks the first time in over a decade that a woman has been the solo author of a musical: writing the music, lyrics, and book, and is the fourth time in Broadway history a woman has accomplished this creative feat. The show originated as Mitchell’s indie theater project that toured Vermont which she then turned into an acclaimed album. With Chavkin, her artistic collaborator, Hadestown has been transformed into a genre-defying new musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale.
Following two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers, Hadestown delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.
Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, by calling (877) 250-2929, or visiting the Kerr box office.
