Theater Thursday - The Prom

Me - The Prom is a really good show. It's about a girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the school prom. It is a really uplifting story. The acting is really good especially that of Caitlin Kinnuen who plays the main character, Emma. Her acting is really touching. The songs are excellent. We already got the soundtrack, and I love listening to the songs over and over again. Everyone should see this show because it teaches an important lesson about equality. However, it 's not like sitting in school and learning a lesson. It teaches in fun and entertaining way.

Me 2 - The Prom is a really great show. It's about a group of celebrities who want to seem more likeable by becoming more involved in activisim. They look at what is going on in the news and decide to help a girl  named Emma whose school cancelled the prom because she wanted to go with her girlfriend. The show has great music and an amazing cast. I personally enjoyed the scenes focusing on Emma more than the scenes focusing on the adult characters because I found her to be more relatable, but over all, I loved the whole show. As many reviewers have said, I laughed and I cried. I think it's amazing that there's more diverse representation on Broadway now, and I hope that this show will inspire more shows that will teach people that love is love.*

Mom - The Prom is a musical which revolves around a teenage girl who wants to bring her girlfriend to the prom despite the vehment objection of other members of her town. It is a beautiful story about tolerance and acceptance. It is full of great songs that are not only memorable and catchy but also meaningful. They include My Unruly Heart, a song about following one's heart even if it leads you to places that may not fit in with so called societal norms as well as Love Thy Neighbor, a song about the hyprocisy of picking and choosing which religious tenets one wants to follow. The show stars a number of well know Broadway performers including Beth Leavel, Christopher Sieber, Angie Schworer, and Brooks Ashmanskas. All are good in their roles. However, the show's breakout star is Caitlin Kinnuen in the lead role of Emma. Ms. Kinnuen gives a wonderfully nuanced performance that soars between heartbreaking and heatwarming. She can say more with a look than most people can say with pages of dialogue. It is hard to believe that she originally only auditioned for the part of of the girlfriend. It is hard to imagine anybody else in the lead role but Ms. Kinnuen. All in all, it is an extremely moving and important show. Anyone who is offended by the subject matter of the show is exactly the type of person who needs to see the show and take its message to heart.
