WE ARE THE TIGERS, an original pop/rock musical and teen horror comedy written & composed by Preston Max Allen and produced by S. Asher Gelman, will make its New York Premiere Off-Broadway at Theater 80 (80 St. Mark’s Place) this winter. Michael Bello will direct the pitch-black comedy about a dismally low-ranking team of cheerleaders trying to survive the night while being terrorized by a serial killer. The Doubtful Sprout
Liz Joyce and a Couple of Puppets

Making its NYC theater debut, this underground puppet adventure invites kids to get ready to explore the world under their feet. Audiences will tunnel down with Worm and Sprout as they discover the mysterious life found in the soil. Along the way, kids will help figure out the secrets that help Sprout grow. Acclaimed master puppeteer Liz Joyce (director of Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre in Sag Harbor, Long Island) brings this ecological wonderland to life with several styles of puppets, projections, and song (composed by Morgan Taylor of Gustafer Yellowgold).
The musical show, funded in part by a Jim Henson Foundation Family Grant and directed by Joshua Holden, features more than 20 puppets in a variety of styles, including marionettes and hand rod puppets as well as animation. While the science-based script is based on real soil ecology principles, the heart of the story offers an emotional narrative about life and growing with a network of support. Sprout is very doubtful about whether she will be able to grow like other plants. But she soon discovers from her fellow "Terraineans" and "Up Toppers" that the world around and above is rooting for us to grow up strong.

9C) THE BARD SUMMERSCAPE PRODUCTION OF

RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN’S

OKLAHOMA!

BECOMES FIRST BROADWAY SHOW

TO JOIN THE GUN NEUTRAL INTIATIVE

Producer Eva Price recently announced that Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!will become the first Broadway show to join the entertainment industry’s Gun Neutral initiative. Gun Neutral is a new, collaborative effort to explore ways entertainment companies, individual productions and storytellers can help solve the gun violence that claims over 100 lives every day in America.
For every visible gun that is seen on stage in Oklahoma!, the production will make a donation to the Gun Neutral 501c3 for the benefit of organizations working to destroy illegal firearms that should be out of circulation. Gun Neutral will also use the funds to make grants to organizations who provide arts and STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) programming to youth in underserved areas, and particularly those impacted by chronic gun violence.

Gun Neutral launched in October of 2018 when Level Forward announced the initiative and their company-wide commitment to it. The non-partisan initiative and accompanying working group is focused on preserving the authenticity and artistic freedom of storytellers, while increasing awareness and promoting social responsibility - regardless of individual politics. Gun Neutral will also be providing the results of pre and post-exposure research to storytellers and is working with the Annenberg Public Policy Center so that writers, directors and producers can better understand the consequences of their creative choices.

For more information on how to get involved in Oklahoma!’s partnership with Gun Neutral, or for further information about the Gun Neutral Initiative, contact the Gun Neutral Program Manager Brent Zachery at

by Harrison David Rivers
Wednesday, February 6 at 7:00pm

Jonah is a dancer.
Jonah is injured.
Jonah has an ex-boyfriend.

A brutal and lyrical play about the things we hang on to and the price of moving forward, the bandaged place tells the story of one man’s attempt to free himself from the abuses of his past. Jonah is forced to turn to his precocious daughter and tough love grandmother for support when a former lover resurfaces, re-opening a painful wound.

Pictures From Home
by Sharr White
directed by Daniella Topol
Friday, February 8 at 4:00pm

In 1981, photographer Larry Sultan set out to create a portrait of his parents, Jean and Irv, tracing his family’s journey from postwar Brooklyn to California’s San Fernando Valley. A decade later, the resulting work, Pictures From Home, combined home movie stills, interviews, and Sultan’s own photographs — both candid and staged — of his often aggrieved, but always complicit parents. The work had grown to become an epic exploration of twentieth-century American optimism, deceptively banal, deeply personal. As adapted by Sharr White, Pictures From Homeadds another layer to Sultan’s exploration: that of a volatile and loving relationship between parent and son who employ image as their proxy for an Oedipal struggle over dominance.

My Very Own British Invasion will be performed at Paper Mill Playhouse eight times a week, Wednesday through Sunday. Performance schedule: Wednesday at 7:30pm, Thursday at 1:30pm and 7:30pm, Friday at 8:00pm, Saturday at 1:30pm and 8:00pm and Sunday at 1:30pm and 7:00pm. Tickets are on sale now starting at $34. Tickets may be purchased by calling 973.376.4343, at the Paper Mill Playhouse Box Office at 22 Brookside Drive in Millburn, or online at www.PaperMill.org. All major credit cards accepted. Groups of 10 or more may receive up to a 40% discount on tickets and should call 973.315.1680. Season subscriptions are on sale now and are available by calling 973.379.3717. Students may order $23-$28 rush tickets over the phone or in person at the Paper Mill Playhouse Box Office on the day of the performance.

FEBRUARY 9 - 17, 2019
AT THE YORK THEATRE AT SAINT PETER’S
Celebrating the centennial of Alan Jay Lerner. The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and rediscovery of musical gems from the past, continues the 25th Anniversary of its acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series celebrating the work of the legendary librettist and lyricist Alan Jay Lerner, whose hundredth birthday was August 31, 2018. The series honors one of the creators behind such classics as -Brigadoon, Camelot, Love Life, and My Fair Lady.
For the second show in the 2019 Winter series, The York revisits one of Lerner and Loewe’s lesser-known gems: 1945’s The Day Before Spring, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by his longtime collaborator Frederick Loewe. Directed and adapted by Marc Acito (Allegiance), and with music direction by David Hancock Turner (Desperate Measures), the 11-member cast will feature Jonathan Christopher (La Boheme) as Gerald Barker, Michelle Liu Coughlin (The King and I) as May Tompkins, Nicolas Dromard (Mary Poppins) as Bill Tompkins, Judith Ingber (Man of La Mancha), Kent M. Lewis (Billy Elliot) as Harry Scott/Ensemble, Alyse Alan Louis (Amélie) as Christopher Randolph, Ian Lowe (Murder for Two) as Eddie Warren/Ensemble, Jesse Manocherian (Marry Harry) as Alex Rutland, Madison Claire Parks (The Fantasticks) as Katherine Townsend, Will Reynolds (Daddy Long Legs) as Peter Townsend, and Brittany Santos(West Side Story).
A married woman attends a college reunion where she encounters the man with whom she almost eloped ten years before. Romantically stirred by a novel he has written about her, she considers leaving her husband and reuniting with her former flame. With a score that was never recorded, moments of The Day Before Spring served as inspiration for such Lerner and Loewe classics as Gigi and My Fair Lady. Although the show was previously seen in a Mufti staging in 2007, this presentation will feature the full original score, recently rediscovered for a 2010 UK production—its first hearing in New York since 1945. Performances begin Saturday afternoon, February 9, 2019 and continue for 11 performances only through February 17, 2019. Opening Night will be Sunday evening, February 10, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

14D) BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB
PRESENTS
LORNA DALLAS
“S T A G E S”

MUSICAL DIRECTOR CHRISTOPHER DENNY
DIRECTED BY BARRY KLEINBORT
ONE NIGHT ONLY!
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2019 @ 8:30PM
THE BIRDLAND THEATER
315 WEST 44th STREET – NYC
Birdland Jazz Club will present vocalist Lorna Dallas for one night only in Stages, an all new show at The Birdland Theater (315 West 44th Street) on Monday, February 11, 2019 @ 8:30 pm.
Last season, American born and West End favorite Lorna Dallas returned to the New York cabaret world after a twenty-year hiatus. The reviewers were unanimous and unstinting in their praise. Bistro Awards wrote, “May Ms. Dallas return to the New York stage…and often!” Cabaret Scenesechoed that sentiment: “This is truly a once in a lifetime event not to be missed.” Rex Reed of The Observer also chimed in: “The kind of inspired singing that is as rare as a pink unicorn in MGM Technicolor.”
This season, Ms. Dallas returns again to Birdland, premiering a sparkling new show, Stages, devised by her two long time collaborators, musical director Christopher Denny and director Barry Kleinbort. Stages refers to those theaters and nightclubs where Ms. Dallas displayed her formidable gifts as a singer and top tier interpreter of popular song, as well as to the formative stages in a life, stages that have taken her from a small town in Southern Illinois to the rarefied hothouse atmosphere of New Orleans and on to dazzling nights in the West End with Sammy Cahn and Dame Cleo Laine, culminating in Royal Command performances for Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family. The musical program is equally diverse, ranging from unforgettable standards and show tunes by Broadway’s greats to little known but equally worthy gems from both sides of the “pond.” In short, Stages **offers a treasure trove of glorious singing, intimate detail and heartfelt reminiscence.
Lorna Dallas Stages plays the Birdland Theater (315 West 44th Street) on Monday, February 11 @ 8:30pm. There is a $30 cover charge and a $10 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and information are available at www.birdlandjazz.com or by calling (212) 381-5080.
