Mom's view: Random Acts is a one woman show written and performed by Renata Hinrich's rearding her experiences with racism growing up in the southside of chicago in the 1960s. It was a time when a friendly little white girl like Ms. Hinrichs couldn't even talk to a black girl in her class without putting herself in danger. It is also the story of the stranger who stepped into help Ms Hinrich's when she really needed it despite the color barrier, an act which had a profounf affect on Ms. Hinrich's life. The show is very engrossing and moves along rather quickly for a one woman show. Ms. Hinrich's does a terrific job of inhabiting all of the characters in her story. Even now when there is still so much racism in the world, her story really hits a nerve and especially when you walk out of the theater and see pictures from Ms. Hinrich's childhood making it all even more raw and real.
