Mom's view: If you are tired of the same old fairy tales, and you want to see a children's show that you probably have never seen before, go and see Literally Alive Theater's production of Oscar Wilde's The Selfish Giant. The show is based on a fairy tale of the same name by Oscar Wilde about a giant who doesn't want to let anyone to play in his beautiful garden until he learns a lesson about sharing. The show is full of mostly upbeat songs and lively dances. Children will enjoy the fun story and maybe even learn a lesson themselves along the way. The show will be running through this Sunday November 11, however, so if you are interested in attending you should get your tickets now.

Me - I enjoyed Beauty and the Beast. I had never seen the stage show before. However, from what I remember it was very similiar to the cartoon movie, and it was definitely very similiar to the live action version that was in the movies a year or two ago. I love the songs from the original movie, and it's always great to hear them live. The other songs aren't particularly memorable. The acting in Kelsey's Theatre's version of the show was good. The actors playing Belle and the Beast really made a nice pair. The singing voices were pretty.  The costumes were really accurate to the cartoon movie. I liked that about them. I especially liked the yellow dress that Belle wears at the end of the show. The set and background were well done too.  It was cool how they had a picture of the castle on the curtain before the show. Over all, it was a good show worth seeing.

Mom  - There is a lot to like about Disney's Beauty and the Beast currently playing at Kelsey Theatre. If you have never seen the stage show before, the story is fairly true to the original Disney cartoon. The well loved songs like Be Our Guest, Belle, and Gaston are all here. There are also a bunch of songs that were specifically written for the stage version, most if not only of which did not appear in the live action movie version either. These songs are mostly pretty ballads including Human Again and If I Can't Love Her. The songs that replaced these songs in the live action version were not necessarily better songs so it is definitely worth it to hear the original stage version songs. The acting is mostly good in Kelsey's production and the singing voices are beautiful. Although something seems to be missing in Katie Conn's portrayal of Belle at first, she gets stronger as the show goes along. Harrison Singer as the Beast is good throughout. The two leads do have a good chemistry making the second acting particular moving. If you are looking for that beautiful iconic yellow dress, you will definitely find that here as the Kelsey costumers do a terrific job of recreating it. All in all, there is a lot to like about this show, but if you want to see it, don't wait because the last performance is this Sunday November 11.
