Now at Shetler Studios
In the Bleak Midwinter
244 W. 54th St
(Between Broadway & 8th Ave.)
12th Floor
New York, NY

Dorothy Lyman, who is well known for playing Opal Gardner on All My Children and Naomi Oates Harper on Mama’s Family, is now premiering her new play, In the Bleak Midwinter, at Shetler Studios’ Theatre 54, in Manhattan. The production stars Blue Bloods series regular, Abigail Hawk. The limited engagement runs through September 23.

It’s a freezing Catskill winter outside on Gladstone Farms and pretty frosty inside the farmhouse kitchen too, as 3 generations of women debate the fate of their matriarch. A holiday weekend with family becomes a fulcrum for change, as recently widowed Elizabeth Gladstone (Dorothy Lyman) faces old age and the loss of her home. Betsy, her daughter, (Abigail Hawk) and granddaughter Liz, (Jeanne Lauren Smith) each have their own ideas about what should happen. Betsy wants to cash out, Liz wants to try to hang on to the farm. Tempers are as short as the winter days. But for Elizabeth, the only real question is can the third act of her life really be the best one yet?

Musicians Band Together To Raise Money for Detained Children

Hold Tight, Shine Bright

Compilation Album Benefiting RAICES Features Songs by Top Family Music Artists

Available today via iTunes and Bandcamp

Hundreds of immigrant and refugee children are still being held in federal detention centers around the country. In response, 33 of the top artists in family music have banded together to create Hold Tight, Shine Bright, a compilation album of 27 songs with a basic goal in mind — the preservation and promotion of love, hope and family. Hold Tight, Shine Bright is available today via iTunes. All Proceeds of this album will benefit the legal aid initiatives of RAICES Texas.

The dozens of children’s musicians, artists, collaborators, and contributors on this album believe that families seeking refuge in the United States of America need to remain together. The compilation album was produced by The Hold Tight Shine Bright Project: Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis (Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band), Polly Hall and Andrew Barkan (Andrew and Polly), and CJ Pizarro (Mista Cookie Jar), along with Dale Edward Chung. Album art is by Micah Player (Lately Lily).

The first single, “Shine Your Light,” was released on Bandcamp in July, and the track (featuring the producers) is in daily rotation on radio shows around the nation. Proceeds from this single and  “Hold Tight, Shine Bright” will all go RAICES, Refugees and Immigration Center for Education Legal Service in Texas. RAICES is currently providing free and low-cost legal service to underserved immigrant children and families. “We believe these services are crucial in making a real difference,” notes Hall and Barkan. “Like RAICES, our goal is to join others in the effort to #ReuniteEveryChild,” adds Pizarro. “Having been raised by Filipino immigrant parents, the value of family was emphasized and instilled in me at a very young age. Family is light. Family is valuable. We want to spread this light into the dark corners, raise awareness, and promote family unification.”

THE TRUTH HAS CHANGED BY JOSH FOX
TO PLAY THE TOWN HALL SEPTEMBER 11

SPECIAL POST SHOW DISCUSSIONS AND EVENTS TO FOLLOW THE PERFORMANCE

The Truth Has Changed offers both a warning and a way forward for our besieged democracy.

The water has changed. The climate has changed. The rules have changed. There's toxic data everywhere. How do we know what's true?

As the Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker behind Gasland, the film that started the anti-fracking movement worldwide, Josh Fox was the subject of a $100 million smear campaign by the oil and gas industry. This campaign of misinformation and slander was run by people we have heard quite a bit about in recent times: Steve BannonAndrew BreitbartJames O’Keefe and others. And what Steve Bannon did to Josh from 2010 to 2015, he did to the whole American electorate in 2016. Josh Fox was the beta test for the types of propaganda for which the gang that created Cambridge Analytica is now known worldwide.

And Fox tells his story in an uncompromising way like never before.

Tickets are priced at $24.50 - $64.50 (premiums also available), and are on sale at The Town Hall Box Office at 143 West 43rd Street, New York, NY or on TicketMaster.com. The Truth Has Changedruns 2 hours 20 minutes with an intermission.

SATELLITE COLLECTIVE
in collaboration with SiTE:LAB
presents a live performance installation of
Echo & Narcissus
September 19 - October 7, 2018

Satellite Collective's upcoming show, Echo & Narcissus received grants from the ArtPrize jury and Frey Foundation to bring the show's music, video and opera singers together as a live performance installation with SiTE:LABfrom September 19 - October 7, 2018, at 415 Franklin St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507, following its run earlier in the month at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. For more information visit: http://www.artprize.org/67243.

Satellite Collective's Echo & Narcissus is a vocal and hand projected performance - an aria to illuminate the unrest and discord of our moment. Original music for seven piece chamber and jazz orchestra, live performance by vocalists, and hand projected imagery will move through the halls of a historic space of the city, followed by the audience. Whether it's a politician's self-aggrandizement or social media users in echo chambers, it's a potent time to face the myth of Narcissus and what it means to look in a mirror. New York-based Satellite Collective brings a live performance where Narcissus and Echo will break apart in full opera and project their inner lives on each other and their immediate surroundings: the historic space of the Franklin Street School in collaboration with SiTE:LAB. The performers will move from space to space as their story unfolds, illuminating themselves and the art near and around them with images of their own fears and inner lives.

The performance which will have taken place at The Brooklyn Academy of Music's BAM Fischer space, will be turned inside out and projected onto the walls of a class room in an old Christian High School in Grand Rapids, taking the piece into the world of visual art and becoming visible to upwards of 40,000 people over a month long period.

The production in Brooklyn will be held at BAM Fisher, 321 Ashland Place, Brooklyn, NY on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 8pm and Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $25 and can be purchased athttps://www.bam.org/SatelliteCollective

New York, 1971. Narcissus, a rebellious yet charismatic outsider, hunts alone in the city at night. He's come south from his father's kingdom on the city's outer coast. New York Shakespeare Exchange announces the next ShakesBEER, NYC's original Shakespearean Pub Crawl, running Saturdays from September 15 - 29, 2018 at 3pm. The pub crawl begins at Jasper's Taphouse (761 9th Avenue, NYC) at 2:30pm and moves to The Gaf (401 W 48th Street, NYC), Perdition (692 10th Avenue, NYC), and The Waylon (736 10th Avenue, NYC). Check-in is at 2:30pm at Jasper's Taphouse. Tickets are $49 and are available atwww.ShakespeareExchange.org. Tickets include performance and four drinks (beer, wine, and select cocktails).

t's impossible to have just one! NY Shakespeare Exchange returns to Hell's Kitchen to serve up a fresh, new round of ShakesBEER, NYC's Original Shakespearean Pub Crawls, in September.

This special fall edition takes on the 2018 Midterm Elections, in ShakesBEER's irreverent and fearless style, featuring pieces from Coriolanus and Titus Andronicus, and mixing in scenes from Fuente Ovejuna by Lope De Vega and A Man for All Seasons by Robert Bolt, directed by Ross Williams, Cristina Lundy, and Brian Demar Jones.

Produced by NY Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX), a company that inspires conversation and builds communal experiences through the work of William Shakespeare, the ShakesBEER Pub Crawls treat audiences to an immersive dipso-literary experience that harks back to Elizabethan times.  But it is the ability of the Bard's timeless poetry to shed light on contemporary issues that NYSX is most eager to share.

Launching at Jasper's NYC, 761 Ninth Avenue, the "ShakesBEER" crawl will hit four bars in the course of an afternoon (the others are The Gaf, The Waylon, and Perdition).  At each of these establishments, the NYSX ensemble rises from the crowd to perform their scene.
