Mom's view: Comfort Women is not a comfortable musical. It is about a difficult subject, Korean Women who were enticed to go to Japan to earn money for their families but instead were forced to become sex slaves during the time when Korea was under Japanese Imperial rule. It is well acted and well sung but it is not an easy show to watch. It is definitely not for young children and I wouldn't even bring young teens. The show includes adult imagery, violence, and perceived sexual violence. The female characters are mostly brave and inspirational. The male characters are mostly abhorrent. If art is not merely meant to entertain, but one of its functions is to shine a light on the injustices of the past, this show does a good job of that. You will not leave this show with a smile on your face, but it is still worth seeing to learn about a part of history that you probably never knew about and for the fine acting performances by the entire cast.
