Where-To-Go Wednesday - Queens Zoo

What: Queens Zoo

Where: 53-51 111th St.
            Corona, NY

Who: All ages

Me - The Queens Zoo was fun. It is a small zoo.  It has a good number of animals but doesn't take a long time to go through. There was a whole section of farm animals. They had a a couple of big pigs. They also had rabbits, and cows and sheep and more. In the other part of the zoo, there were more animals. There was a sea lion. There were sea lion feedings but we didn't see one. There was also a llama or it might have been an Alpaca but I'm not sure.  There was a puma, a coyote and something called a Roosevelt Elk. There was a speckled bear. There was an alligator. There were also other animals. They had a lot of pretty flowers at the zoo too. There was a section about extinct animals. There were stones like gravestone. The stones said what the animal was called, where it lived, when it was last seen and had a picture of what the animal looked like. The Queens Zoo is in a really good location because right near it are a lot of other fun places  like a science museum and a baseball stadium. Over all, it is  a fun place to go especially if you like animals and a big zoo is too much for you.

Mom - Another one of New York's smaller zoos is the Queens Zoo. The Queens Zoo is very similar to the Central Park Zoo and the Prospect Park Zoo although it is a little bigger than either of those zoos. It is conveniently located in a great area for family fun close to the New York Hall of Science; the Fantasy Forest, amusement park; and Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. Special areas of the zoo include an exhibit regarding species that have become extinct and an exhibit regarding migration. As with the Bronx Zoo and the Central Park Zoo, there is also a fun area where kids can  pretend to be birds in a nest. However, this area is not as extensive as at the other zoos. Across from the main zoo, there is a whole section of farm animals. This zoo is a great choice for those who are overwhelmed by a zoo as large as The Bronx Zoo or don't have as much time to spend at the zoo. The Queens Zoo shouldn't take more than a few hours to go through at most whereas the Bronx Zoo can easily take the whole day. The Queens Zoo like the other New York zoos is open year round.
