Theater Thursday - Cruel Intentions

Me - Cruel Intentions the Musical  was a very fun show to watch. I've have never seen the movie on which it's based, although I am hoping to at some point, so I can't really compare them to each other. I can, however,  say that the musical was a lot funnier than I was expecting it to be. Something that I found to be very creative about the show was that rather than just including music they used it to their comedic advantage.Unlike some musicals based on non-musical stories, that just randomly insert music, they choose songs that related to the plot in a way that made the audience laugh. I would like to make it perfectly clear that this show is not for young children or immature teenagers or adults.  The acting and singing were both really great. Over all, even though the show is not exactly light, it still made for a really enjoyable evening. *

Mom - Cruel Intentions is a musical based on the 1999 movie which was in turn based on Les Liasions Dangereuses an American film based on the French film and book of the same name. Even though the show is about teenagers, the plot mostly revolves around sexual matters so I definitely would not recommend it for young children although it may be alright for some older teens if they have a certain level of maturity. Keep in mind, however, that there is also some nudity in the show (a young man's bare behind is briefly shown), and there is also alcohol served in the venue where the show is performed. All these things are reason why the show is recommended for  ages 18 and above. While the movie was more of a serious drama, the show has a lot of lighter moments mostly due to the placement of songs within the plot. The songs are all popular songs from the 90s including The Sign, Bittersweet Symphony and I'm Just a Girl. Some of the songs actually appeared on the original soundtrack of the film but not all of them did. The writer's did a fabulous job with placement of songs within the show and that is what really makes this a fun show. The acting and singing are both really good too. All in all, although this is a show for mature audiences only, it is definitely  an entertaining show worth seeing.
