59E59 Theaters announces the line up for the 2017 East to Edinburgh Festival

59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) announces the 2017 line up for the annual EAST TO EDINBURGH festival. EAST TO EDINBURGH begins on Tuesday, July 11 for a limited engagement
through Sunday, July 30. The performance schedule varies.  Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Tickets to each EAST TO EDINBURGH show is $15 ($12 for 59E59 Members). Tickets can be purchased by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200 or online via www.59e59.org.

Created as a way to help shows get on their feet before flying off to Scotland for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (the largest arts festival in the world), EAST TO EDINBURGH simulates the same production constraints that all shows experience during the Fringe, while giving companies a clean, comfortable, and nurturing space to fine-tune their productions. This whirlwind festival, which takes over Theaters B & C in the month of July, features some of the most adventurous theater from around New York and across the US.

The 2017 EAST TO EDINBURGH line up is:

Produced by Fundamental Theater Project

Peter Shaffer Award recipient Aisha Josiah brings us a tour de force solo show that explores gender identity, the roles we choose to play and the roles thrust upon us. DICKLESS follows two characters, Saff and Oli, as they recount their most adventurous evening in a small British working class town. THE DARLING CORE written by Conor Anthony O'Brien & Simone Daniel, directed by Daniel Holme
With Simone Daniel and Conor Anthony O'Brien
Produced by New Vintage Ensemble

An original dark comedy about the original dark couple. Adam and Lilith have been together for (quite possibly) eternity, trudging from stage to stage trying to be heard by anyone who will listen. Following yet another series of dismal performances, Adam and Lilith face each other for control of their art, their futures and their own voices. Their story reveals their clandestine roles in major world events, dark love affairs and terribly bad vaudeville bits. Inspired loosely by co-creator/ co-star Conor O'Brien's ancestor, famed vaudeville star Tony Hart (of "Harrigan & Hart").

SHOW UP written and performed by Peter Michael Marino, directed by Michole Biancosino and the audience
Produced by PM2 Entertainment, Project Y Theater Company and Civil Disobedience

Award-winning solo performer Peter Michael Marino (Desperately Seeking the ExitLate with Lance!) has been performing, directing and producing solo shows forever. In SHOW UP, Pete uses his decades of solo performance experience to turn the often vilified clichés of the genre on their clichéd heads. Using an arsenal of Post-it Notes, Pete transforms the real-life audience experiences into an improvised, comedic, vibrant life-story that's daring and different each time. You get to control the content, set and sound for this socially-anxious show that's mostly about you.

PLACES written and performed by Romy Nordlinger, directed by Katie McHugh
Produced by Yonder Window Theatre Company, Parity Productions & Jack Sharkey

Long before Madonna, the world was Gaga for Nazimova. PLACES is the story of trailblazer Alla Nazimova: 1920s silent screen icon, Broadway legend, and probably the most famous star you’ve never heard of. From a Jewish immigrant fleeing Tsarist Russia to the highest paid movie star in Tinseltown, Nazimova was the first female writer, director, and producer in Hollywood. With her visionary film Salome, art house cinema was born. Nazimova's infamous all-women’s ‘sewing circle,’ a term she coined to describe her underground meetings of lesbian and bisexual film actresses in Hollywood, defied the moral and artistic codes of her time—and eventually forced her into obscurity. Romy Nordlinger’s multimedia solo performance reimagines one of the most daring and censored artists of the 20th century.

THE GALLERY PLAYERS
Announce a new production of

JULIUS CAESAR
By WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
Directed by JAMES DEAN PALMER

July 13 – 30, 2017
At the Gallery Players Theatre (199 14th St., Brooklyn, NY)

(Brooklyn, NY) The Gallery Players (Mark Harborth, Artistic Director; Justine McLaughlin, Managing Director) are thrilled to announce a new production of William Shakespeare’s JULIUS CAESAR directed by James Dean Palmer, and featuring Erin Anderson, Elyana Aronow, Patricia Black, Erin Capistrano, Russell Linzy Carpenter, Sergio Fuenzalida, David Glover, Jenny Jarnagin, Drew Ledbetter, Bibi Mama, Cory Mccants, Kevin Mcguire, Victoria Morales, Elisha Mudly, Philip Schneider, Griffin Sharps and Eric Ryan Swanson. Palmer’s environmental production compresses Shakespeare’s story of ambition, duty and political intrigue into 16 high-voltage scenes using every corner and crevice of the 99-seat Park Slope venue.

Julius Caesar begins performances on Thursday, July 13, 2017. This is a limited engagement through Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the Gallery Players Theatre (199 14th Street, Brooklyn, NY).

In Julius Caesar, we see how easy it is for well-intentioned patriots to let disagreement slip into bloody, civil war. Celebration of the end of a long war welcomes Julius Caesar back to the loving arms of Rome. But fear of the citizens unchecked devotion to Caesar pushes many of his closest friends to wonder how far will he go with such populist support? Those who fear tyranny and enslavement find themselves at odds with their neighbors who want security. The whole city becomes embroiled in the controversy. And after the fateful assassination on the ides of March, Marc Antony’s prophecy comes to pass: “Caesar’s spirit, ranging for revenge, With Ate by his side come hot from hell, Shall in these confines with a monarch’s voice Cry ‘Havoc!’ and let slip the dogs of war.”

TICKET INFORMATION:
Tickets for Julius Caesar are $25 (general admission) or $20 (seniors and children 12 & under), and are on sale now atbleedingpieceofearth.com or by calling OvationTix at 212.352-3101.
