Theater Thursday - Chicago the Musical

What: Chicago the Musical

Where: Ambassador Theatre
             49th Street
             New York, New York

Who: Recommended for Ages 16 and up

Mom's view: If you are looking for a light happy musical, Chicago is not for you. After all,
this is a show about murderesses and is actually loosely based on a real murder that took place
in the 1920s. However, despite that it is not as a heavy a show as other shows and is actually
more of a satire. The show is very appropriate for the world we live in today where people can become famous and even adored for basically nothing. The characters are interesting although
not always likable. The songs even though they cover such subjects as what drove a group of
women to murder and how to lie on the witness stand actually have catchy melodies and are fun.
The dancing is good too. Some of the songs have become quite well-known over the various
runs of the show including All That Jazz and Cell Block Tango. The current production has
featured a constant array of celebrity performers rotating in and out of the show. Some of them are not even known for acting including Jerry Springer, Usher, Christie Brinkley and Kara DioGuardi, but all of them have been entertaining in the show. Therefore, if and when you see the show, you never know who you'll get to see performing in it.  The show is not appropriate for children because of the subject matter. And that's Mom's view. Tune in tomorrow  for Funtivity Friday.
