More Theater Monday: Jake's Women

We were given free tickets to Jake's Women for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own based on our experiences.

Me - Jake's Women was a good show. It was about Jake and all the women who were part of his life. He had a daughter named Molly, a wife named Maggie, a late wife named Julie, a doctor named Edith, a sister named Karen, and a women he dated when he and Maggie were separated named Sheila. He kept having conversations with them in his head and that was interfering with his real life. Molly sometimes appeared to him as a 12 year old, and sometimes as her current age of 21.It was different than most other shows that I've have ever seen. It was the first show I saw that was not a musical. My favorite scene in the show was the one where Jake was with Sheila. He was talking to the voices in his head, and she thought he was talking to her, and it was really funny.  She thought he was going to kill her. The actors in the show were good.  Overall, it was a really interesting good show.

Mom - Jake's Women is a show that has a special place in my heart. Years ago, when I used to do community theater that was the last show I was in. I played Molly at 21. It wasn't only special because it was my last show. My father was in it too. Melissa Rauch who now plays Bernadette Rostenkowski- Wolowitz played Molly at 12.  I haven't seen her in many years, but she was a super nice kid and not at all a stage brat.  She comes from a good family though whom I still run into or hear from occasionally so I feel confident and hopeful that success hasn't changed her that much. Lastly and most importantly, the show was special to me because the cast really bonded. It was the closest cast of any show I have ever been on.

The current production of Jake's Women at Kelsey Theatre was well done. The acting was good. I wouldn't say the show is one of Neil Simon's best, but it is a good show. It can be a bit talky at times. However, it is filled with entertaining often funny characters. All of the characters are well played by the talented cast. For me, of course, this version of the show could never replace the special memories I had of being in the show. However, it is still a thoroughly entertaining show that anyone who likes a good comedy should enjoy. For more information or to find out how to order tickets, click here. Keep in mind, the show will only be running through October 9.

And that's our view. What is your favorite Neil Simon show that you have seen or what Neil Simon show would you most like to see?

Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.
