Liberty: A Monumental New Musical, will celebrate its opening in the most American way possible, opening on the 4th of July. Based on true events, Liberty is a fast-paced entertaining 80-minute theatrical experience detailing the arrival of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor in 1884. Coming to the United States in the middle of a national immigration debate and a terrible recession, political forces are aligning to deport her. With a strong resolve and a mighty spirit, she battles to gain acceptance and eventually becomes the enduring symbol of our country.

Liberty: A Monumental New Musical is currently playing at 42West (514 West 42ndon Monday and Friday at12 and 3pm. In July the show will be performed on SundayMondayWednesday at 3pm & 7pm & Thursday at 12pm at 3pm.

Broadway history will be made when, for the first time ever, two Mexican-born actors will lead a Broadway musical. The producers of Chicago, Broadway’s Longest Running American Musical, are pleased to announce that Latin superstars, and long-time friends, Bianca Marroquín andJaime Camil will appear on stage opposite each other as “Roxie Hart” and “Billy Flynn” for 24 performances only beginning Monday, July 11th. Mr. Camil will end his run in the show on Sunday, July 31st and Ms. Marroquín will continue in her role through Sunday, August 21st at theAmbassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St., NYC).

Bianca Marroquín is a Chicago veteran having appeared in the Broadway cast off and on since 2002. Jaime Camil, known for his role as Rogelio De La Vega in the CW's “Jane the Virgin,” made his Chicago debut last month.

Cirque Du Soleil to Release Cast Album of Paramour This Summer

A Broadway cast album of Paramour will be recorded on June 29 and 30 to be released later this summer. The album will contain songs and selections from the show, including material by Bob & Bill and Andreas Carlsson.

The cast album of Paramour will feature Jeremy Kushnier as A.J., the director; Ruby Lewis as Indigo, the starlet; and Ryan Vona as Joey, the composer. It will showcase all 10 signature songs including “Hollywood Wiz,” “The Honeymoon Days of Fame” and “Everything (The Lover’s Theme."

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) presents How to Write a Musical That Works (part 3): Reckoning & Resolution on Saturday July 16th, 10am to 6pm at Nola Studios, 244 W. 54th Street, 11th floor.This workshop is dedicated to fostering a conversation about musical theater structure not only for writers but also for producers, directors and everyone involved in the creation and production of new works. Up to 10 writers or writer teams will present a song and scene from a new musical. Submission fee for presenters is $20; if accepted, it will be applied to a participation fee of $100 (discounts available for TRU members). The cost for non-participants to attend for the full day, to observe the presentations and be part of the discussions, is $50. 

"Reckoning and Resolution" will focus on: 1) songs that express the resolution of a character's "want," or the overcoming of obstacles, and how it leads to a final choice; 2) "eleven o'clock numbers," the big dramatic showstopper that sums up the (usually) main character's journey; 3) the finale, an effective and emotionally satisfying way of concluding your story. The application deadline (extended) is Tuesday, July 5, 2016 and the application can be downloaded at http://truonline.org/hwm3 - E-mail completed applications to TRUPlaySubmissions@gmail.com.  

**If accepted, writers will have a 15-20 minute slot, including one song and scene, plus feedback; ; participation fee is $100 ($80 for TRU members), which includes 2 seats for the entire day workshop as well as your presentation slot. The Humans will move into Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street) to extend its limited run. The Humans will play its first performance in its new home on Tuesday, August 9. It will play its final performance at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Sunday, July 24, and then take a two-week hiatus to allow for the move. As previously announced, the Hayes is set to undergo significant renovations beginning in August.

After enjoying its World Premiere engagement earlier this spring at the Playroom Theater, A Class Act, the inaugural and relevant new play by attorney and playwright Norman Shabel, will now hold court at New World Stages  - Stage 5 (340 West 50th Street – between 8th & 9th Avenues) for a summer run.  Produced by Eric Krebsperformances will begin on Saturday, July 9 at 8pm and continue through Sunday, September 4.

In A Class Act, when a major chemical company pours cancer-causing waste into the water supply, a high-powered law firm brings a class action lawsuit on behalf of the thousands of people affected. Who wins? Who loses? Who makes millions whether they win or lose? Which lawyers battle the best... or the worst? Does the ordinary person ever realize justice in the end?

The performance schedule for A Class Act will be: Monday at 7pm, Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3:00pm.
