Where-To-Go Wednesday - The Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum and The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show

We were given tickets to the Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own based on our experience.
What: The Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum

Where: Pier 86
             W. 46th St. & 12th Ave.
              New York, NY

Who: All ages

Mom's view: If you think the Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum is only about war and planes, you would be wrong. There is so much more to it than that. There is the Space Shuttle Enterprise. There is the British Airways Concorde. There is the Submarine Growler. There are plenty of artifacts to look at, videos to watch and exhibits to interact with. Of course, there are plenty of planes. However, these are not your average boring looking planes. There are planes of all different sizes, shapes and colors. Some of them are quite interesting including a plane that looks like a shark and/or beautiful including a sky blue plane.  You might think that now is not a good time to think about going to the Intrepid since it is winter time, and it is cold and the Intrepid in on the water. However, this is a great time to go because this week, from February 15 - February 20, is Kids Week. During Kids Week, many free activities and presentations are offered. The theme of this year's Kids Week is Extreme Enivronments. For more of what programs are available this Kids Week go to
http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/kidsweek. If you do go to the Intrepid this week or any other time, remember to dress warm, it can get really cold down by the water even in the Spring or Summer. Come well rested and wear comfortable shoes as you will be doing plenty of walking. Come early. Don't wait until the last minute. There is a lot to see and do here, and you will need a lot of time if you want to see and do it all before closing. The Intrepid closes at 5pm every day through the end of March. Later in the Spring and in the Summer and most of the fall, it is open an extra hour on weekends and holidays. Also, just be aware that the Space Shuttle Pavilion, the three different simulator rides, and any guided tours available cost extra. The Submarine Growler does not require an extra fee. However, there is a height requirement, no wheelchairs or strollers are allowed, it sometimes closes before the rest of the museum, and there may be other restrictions as well. For more information about the Intrepid or to order tickets on-line go to http://www.intrepidmuseum.org.

We were given free tickets to The Very Hungry Caterpillar for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own based on our experience.
What: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Where: 47 Street Theatre
              304 W. 47th St.
              New York, NY

When: Now through March 29, 2016

Who: All ages

Our view: Small children who love Eric Carle's stories will love this show in which four of his stories: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, Mr. Seahorse, and The Very Lonely Firefly are brought to life.  The show is staged in a very interesting way using unique looking giant  puppets to make up the animals that inhabit Carle's world. It doesn't bother the young audience at all that you can see the puppeteers pulling the strings. They are completely enchanted by show. For older children, who have already outgrown the Eric Carle phase, the show might stir some feelings of nostalgia. They might also find the puppets interesting upon first viewing them. However, they are likely to grow quickly bored of that. Accordingly, although the show is for all ages, I would particularly recommend it for children from ages 4- 6.  Children in this age range are sure to fully enjoy it.
