Where-To-Go Wednesday - Children's Museum of the Arts

What: Children's Museum of the Arts

Who: 10 months - 15 years

Our view: Whether your children want to view art or whether they want to create it themselves, the Children's Museum of the Arts is the place to go. The hands-on part of the museum includes a fine art studio where children can draw, paint, sculpt or sew. There is also a clay bar where children can create works of art out of clay, and we do mean works of art. Children are not just given a hunk of clay and let loose. They actually receive instructions on how to work with the clay to create something and each child's finished project will be unique even though they are all working on the same thing. See below.

Although the other part of the museum where works of art created by professional artists is on display may not be as as fun for kids as the hands-on areas, children, except for very young children, should still enjoy it.  The types of art that are on display are creative and colorful in ways that should interest kids. The current exhibit, Pixelated: Sum of Its Pieces, will be on display through May 3.  It consists of art that is made up of many different pieces and many of the things that go into making up all those pieces are quite interesting and fun. We will be talking more about the exhibit in tomorrow's post. Another nice thing about the art on display is that the exhibit space is actually quite small. It is just big enough for children to look around without getting bored. Admission to the museum is $11.00 per person. That is a bargain when you consider that this price covers all exhibits and workshops throughout the museum. Your children are welcome to create as much art as they want during their visit to the museum, and you will not have to pay any more. If you are planning a visit to the museum, keep in mind that since the museum is  quite small at times it can get quite crowded.
