Still More Theater Saturday - Ruby and Charlie

Who: Recommended for Ages 7 and Up

When: Through February 21, 2026

It's hard to believe that a puppet show without any dialogue featuring two puppets with blank faces could pack such an emotional punch, but this one truly does. Ruby and Charlie, like any good romantic story, is about the cycle of a relationship. They meet, they fall in love, they fall out of love, they get back together. Along the way, your emotions are taken for a roller coaster ride. This story is more poignantly told than many a show featuring actual human beings. Kudos to the six puppeteers who so seamlessly work together to bring this beautiful show to life.

Although there is no dialogue, as previously mentioned, the show features a live band. They not only provide background music but also occasionally serve as narrators, providing vital information through song. They even provide sound effects. 

Music, in general, is a vital part of the show. Dancing is a big part of the story, and these two puppets dance a lot better than many humans. The show ends on the perfect note, with the audience joining a one-song dance party on stage. It's a joyous celebration of a magnificent night of puppetry, music, and dance.

 Ay Yah Goy Vey! Adventures of a Dim Sun in Search of His Wanton Father is a whirlwind of a show and a love letter to New York City's diversity. Richard Chang wrote and stars in this solo venture as a man in search of the father who abandoned him and his Chinese opera singer mother. He plays numerous other roles in the show as well, flitting in and out of various characters, costumes, and accents with ease. Although not strictly a musical, the show is also peppered with several parody songs. If you are looking for a temporary diversion from the harsh realities of your own life, you might enjoy this show.

What: Designing Motherhood: Things That Make and Break Our Births

Who: Recommended for Ages 16 and Up

When: Through March 15, 2026

The current exhibit at the Museum of Arts and Design, Designing Motherhood: Things That Make and Break Our Births, is about everything to do with motherhood and beyond. It is not just about having babies and taking care of babies, but about everything reproductive-related, from menstruation to menopause, including having the right to choose when and if to be a mother and products related to that.

Numerous objects, items, pictures, posters, and more are on display. They include maternity clothes, baby care items, and an array of strollers from 1950s models through today's. There are also items like birth control pills and other forms of contraception, as well as menstrual and menopause related items, and more. There is even a whole area devoted to dangerous products that predated safety standards, as well as one regarding more recent designs that were immediately rejected for safety reasons. Plus, there are reproductive-related designs currently in developmental stages, and more.
