Who: Recommended for Ages 11 and Up

Dreadful Episodes is not a show with a linear plot or much of a plot at all, really, but more a series of dark-toned vignettes with interludes of music. Many of the vignettes themselves do not have much of a plot, either, or at least one that is interesting. There are a few that are morbidly funny if you are into that sort of humor, including one about a deadly trio and another about a violent game of croquet. The latter goes on much too long, however. 

The show was inspired by Edward Gorey. The show is, in fact, very reminiscent of his work in costume, character, and tone.  Accordingly, it may be too scary for young children. It is also not very interesting or nearly as fun as it wants to be,

Theater Thursday: An Old-Fashioned Family Murder

What: An Old-Fashioned Family Murder Mystery

Who: Recommended for Ages 8 and Up

When: Through November 2, 2025

An Old-Fashioned Murder Mystery revolves around a famous mystery writer coming to visit a wealthy family and the ensuing murder and mayhem. It may sound like just another generic whodunit based on this simple description, but there is so much more to this show than that. This highly original show, full of generous doses of humor, puts its own unique spin on the genre. 

At its center is beloved actress Sally Struthers, best known for her popular turn as daughter, Gloria, in the groundbreaking television series All in the Family in the 1970s.  She plays the widow of a brilliant detective and mother to an up-and-coming young detective. This is a woman who is a lot more savvy and on the ball than she is given credit for. Struthers plays the role with a delightful subtlety. To see her in the role is to fall in love with her all over again. 

The rest of the cast is equally brilliant. They easily meet the high standards set by Struthers' performance. You won't want to miss this incredibly fun show!

Who: Recommended for Ages 13 and Up

When: Through November 2, 2025

Blacklisted: An American Story provides a comprehensive look at the history of the Red Scare era of the 1950s. This exhibit couldn't be more timely. It is especially important in this particular period to look back at that shameful period in our past and examine what allowed those events to occur, spread, and ruin so many innocent people's lives. So many things that are occurring in this country today provide scary parallels to many of the things that were happening back then. The entire exhibit is a crucial reminder to be vigilantly active and stand up for, respect, and work hard to ensure that the rights of us all are respected and protected.
