Fotografiska New York, the destination for photography and culture in the Flatiron District of New York City, recently announced their December event programming schedule.
The museum will host events around current exhibitions including Andres Serrano Infamous and Naima Green Brief & Drenching. On December 1st, Andres Serrano and Svetlana Mintcheva, Director of Programs at the National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) will discuss what it means to show images of racist objects today. On December 14th, Suhaly Bautista-Carolina of Moon Mother Apothecary will host the second event in “The Medicine of the Moon,” series with special guest Frances Perez-Rodriguez. The Medicine of the Moon is a three-part hands-on, plant medicine workshop in homage to Naima Green’s exhibition Brief & Drenching.

Tensions over race and racism are impacting every sphere of life in the United States. It is at this crucial moment that Andres Serrano is confronting us with some of the most shameful and painful racist images of the nation's past. What does it mean to show these images of banal products decorated with racist caricatures? And, specifically, to show them today? In conversation with the artist, Svetlana Mintcheva, Director of Programs at the National Coalition Against Censorship, suggests that the display of these images may function in much the same way as recent protests: as an eruption of long suppressed anger and anguish. Disturbing as it is, looking at these images may constitute part of a healing process where the American historical narrative comes to include, openly, its cruel violence alongside its proud achievements.
Svetlana Mintcheva is Director of Programs at the National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) and founding director of NCAC's arts advocacy project. An academic and an activist, Mintcheva has taught literature and critical theory at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria and at Duke University, from which she received her Ph.D. in critical theory in 1999. She currently teaches part-time at New York University. Her academic research and writing focus on postmodern literature and aesthetic provocations as well as issues in censorship and ethics.

Florence Montmare’s Scenes from an Island explores the human condition of displacement and transience through the elemental conditions of landscape where land meets water. Montmare’s takes us on an introspective journey set against Ingmar Bergman’s mise-en-scène remote island of Fårö, Sweden. The barren cinematic landscape of the island’s natural elements are stripped down and laid bare allowing a contemplation of the rocks and water to function as a mirror, and in reflection, you are able to see an essence of yourself.
At this moment, we find ourselves on our own islands filled with isolation and surrounded by unrest and uncertainty. The enchanted landscape captured through Montmare’s lens combined with her narrative guide us on a journey of self-discovery.

Join Brandon Remler from Fujifilm North America Corporation for a fun and educational photo walk around the Madison Square Park neighborhood. Joshua McHugh is a New York-based photographer who specializes in interior, architecture, and design related projects. He is a Contributing Photographer at Architectural Digest, and his images are regularly published in other national shelter magazines including Elle Décor, Interior Design, and House Beautiful.
Glenn Palmer-Smith’s career has spanned from being a Paris fashion photographer to photographer’s representative to muralist, having restored the famed Bemelmans Bar and Café Carlyle murals at the Hotel Carlyle. His work has been written about in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and Forbes. Most recently he has finished the first in a series of murals for the Christopher Newport University in Virginia.
Graydon Carter is co-founder of Air Mail and served as the editor of Vanity Fair from 1992-2017. During his 25 years as editor, the magazine won dozens of national and international awards, and Graydon himself was nominated to the Magazine Editors’ Hall of Fame. He stepped down from Vanity Fair in 2017, and recently launched Air Mail, a digital weekly concentrating on covering lifestyle stories with “sophistication, authority and wit”.
Edward Sorel is an American illustrator, caricaturist, cartoonist, graphic designer and author. His work is known for its storytelling, its left-liberal social commentary, and its criticism of reactionary right-wing politics and organized religion.

PITCH IN is a one-act youth-musical written specifically to be performed online with gender inclusivity and many flexible roles. We are seeking two diverse and inclusive casts of actors between the ages of 10-16 for this special virtual workshop presentation.
More on PITCH IN: When a small-town school loses funding for its extracurricular activities, the Principal asks the students to pitch ideas to save their school. Following the Science Club, a Robotics super villain, and the Show Choir, we see the students navigate stage fright, sabotage, and new friendships as they learn what it really means to work as a team.

Those inspired by the vision are encouraged to donate to The Actors Fund and/or Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, as a way to help performers, writers, musicians, technicians, and other theater industry workers remain out of work through at least Summer 2021 due to Covid-19.

17) TEDx Asbury Park - 'The Joy of Giving Back' FREE EVENT On Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 7 p.m., please join TedxAsburyPark on Zoom as their TEDx speakers explore how generosity toward others can be the most joyful gift.
First, Mary’s Place by the Sea founder Michele Gannon will share the story behind the respite home for women with cancer—which has brought peace and serenity to over 10,000 women since its founding—with her talk, “In Giving You Will Find Joy.”
Next, Dr. Joanne Jodry, Program Director for the Professional Counseling Graduate Program in Mental Health Counseling at Monmouth University, will speak about One Life to Love (a children’s home for disabled, abandoned or orphaned children in India founded by Courtney Lalotra, a Jersey Shore native) and her graduate students’ experiences in India in “Educational Transformation: Finding Your Meaning through Service to Others”. She will share her passion for helping students enhance their lives by raising their consciousness to higher levels of perception and awareness through “The Joy of Giving”.
Then, youth mentors Mychal Mills and Rodney Salomon will then dive into how they transformed schools and communities through holistic practices with the founding of their non-profit organization, KYDS (Konscious Youth Development and Service).
Finally, they’ll wrap up with a love letter to Asbury Park from Jenn Hampton about her Wooden Walls Project, a collaborative initiative to bring art to Asbury Park in a way that enriches the city’s socio-cultural and socio-economic landscapes.
“The Joy of Giving Back” promises to be an evening celebrating goodness in the world, and inviting us all to live from a place of generosity and engagement within our communities. Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces a new virtual adaptation of their TRU Producer Boot Camp: Essentials of Self-Producing on Sunday, December 6 from 1pm to 6:30pm ET. Awarded the Moliére Award for her performance as Sally Bowles in Cabaret in Paris, Ute Lemper decided to write a postcard to legendary Hollywood icon Marlene Dietrich, who was also living in the French capital, to apologize for all the media attention that had hailed Ute as a new star and compared the youngster to the legendary icon.
It was 1988 and Ute was just at the beginning of her career while Marlene, then aged 89, looked back on a long, fulfilled life of movies, music, incredible collaborations, love stories and global stardom. Somehow Marlene managed to track her down and called her out of the blue.
For 35 years, Ute has been compared to Marlene and Ute Lemper: Rendezvous With Marlene is her personal homage to the legend. The show is a dialogue between Ute and Marlene, exploring Marlene’s career and personal life from the begin¬ning, in a timeline that eventually meets Ute’s timeline with a continuation of their parallel stories. Ute sings Marlene’s most beautiful songs and tells some captivating secrets of her life. Six days before Ute’s opening night playing the part of Lola in the 1992 ‘Blue Angel’ production in Berlin – the role that had made Marlene a star in 1928 – Marlene Dietrich passed away in Paris. After her glamorous funeral in La Madeleine, Marlene finally came back to Berlin to be put= to rest. Ute tells us Marlene’s story, along with singing her fabulous songs from all the chapters of her life, from the Berlin cabaret years to her fabulous Burt Bacharach collaborations.
